I actually came across something the other day which really helped.... I recently added a new crud catcher to the front end. you replace 4 bolts at the same time... I used one of these for the rear seat cowling and its quite a bit longer and works a treat!

so if you find out what size these are use one the same length!

If I remember correctly its a M5 bolt? When I change to the FBT the original bolt felt too short when mounting with the rear passenger seat.

 

Yea, I am facing the exact same issue... which length bolt did you end up using? 35mm?

also its 6mm so m6 not m5 i believe

 

You right, I remeasured the original bolt and the diameter is 5.8mm

 

This isnt sarcasm, But a real compliment.

Personally, I would never have the patience to sit there and measure screws and bolts with a digital meter etc.
There are other "Billy-engineering" ways to do things
However I am glad that many of the members do provide feedback and helpful information from experience.
Because YES I do enjoy reading all of the threads and learn a thing or two

Wrench size, seat security bolt

Is a T27 “security” wrench the correct size?

The stock rear seat bolt on my 2020 R9T Pure takes a T30.

I had to dig the bolt out of my spares box to check it because I replaced it with one of those "tool-less" seat removal bolts last fall.

Yes the factory bolt is standard Torx and not Security Torx. I think the minor confusion arises because the small keychain seat tool BMW provides and the Torx Allen Key in the kit are both Security Torx for some odd reason. As stated elsewhere Security Torx drivers/bits are "backwards" compatible so there is no issue.

 

That is correct. Most of the bolts on our BMWs have Torx heads, but none are the security type. That being said, my understanding is if you have the security type Torx sockets or bits, they should still work on the non-security bolt heads.
