I know it's been discussed somewhat but can anyone advise between the various huggers on the market currently?
-ilmberger vs
-puig vs
-wunderlich
Also, it seems many hugger buyers have bought their items as listed for the r1200r. Are these parts for the nine t specifically or am I looking for the 1200r parts?
The wünderlich is in my opinion the best looking for the 9t or the the r12. In my opinion the exposed bracket looks great and also does the shape of the fender.
I am almost certain it is the exact same part for the 9t or r12. In any case, Wúnderlich has them listed under both specifically.
Took like 10 minutes to install 2 years ago on my R12. No complaints whatsoever. I chromed the bracket and spray painted the plastic.

Sorry if I am out of the loop, but what is a hugger? I can't figure out what it is that I am supposed to be looking at in the picture that @Bose posted.
A Hugger explained
The nice black item that sits over the rear tyre to help keep debris thrown up by the tyre all over your back ,helmet rear seat and generally all over the rear of your bike and it also keeps your shock absorber in fine fettle
I have ordered this Rear Hugger for BMW R1200R.
It has the most coverage of any I have seen.
The seller doesn't list fitment for the nineT only because they have not actually fitted one themselves, and they are relying on the manufacturer to give them advice. (They will be receiving a nineT bike soon, so will be listing more parts as they try them out).
I have ordered the hugger anyway, as it is listed to fit the R1200R, so I am taking the chance that it is the same.
I will post some pictures when it arrives in a week.
I had this one on my R1200R and plan to get another for my 9T. Its a bit longer than the one posted above and I prefer the sleek look of the braket over the other exposed one. http://www.motorcycleparts-hornig.com/BMW-R-1200-R/Carbon-Fiber-GFK/Rear-Hugger.html The link says CF, and they have one but this is the resin version, much cheaper.
Yep, It is the same and I can confirm it will fit either bike - the mounting points for the two bikes are identical. And you are right, the coverage is substantially longer than the Wunderlich or Puig, it and does a good job of keeping things clean under there., and the mounting bracket looks factory. I see this part as required for a tail tidy install since my 9T is an everyday commuter - rain or shine.
PRICE and the Puig/wunderlich huggers end shape blends to the rear of the 9Ts plastics and pillion seat, and not to a duck billed platypus rounded end like all the other options with less tyre coverage also
Horses for courses ,that's why I chose the one that I desired for the look I wanted to achieve on my 9T good luck in your shopping
The NineT looks great AS IS! My bike won't get a hugger. I'll take the dirt and grime and wash it on occasion. I don't wash often because I ride almost daily and would be washing every day.
My mudguard/hugger/fender arrived on Friday: Rear Hugger for BMW R1200R
The quality is excellent. The metal mounting brackets are actually set into the GRP body. The original outer finish is so good you could probably just polish it and leave it gloss.
If I were to remove the tail completely, I would show this off and paint it to match the tank and front guard.
For now I wanted a more inconspicuous look so have sprayed it with Plasti Dip which has just a slight sheen.
Captain....is it possible to get a picture of the bike from a slightly different distance so that I can see what the entire bike looks like with the hugger on. Much thanks in advance
So looking at this pic, I would say this one a good deal longer as it appears to go beyond the tire center line. Can anyone comment on the color of the exposed mount on the Puig? Does it match the cardan in color or the front fender bracket? I saw that some have decided to paint it which makes me think it is not a color match.
I originally thought that the longer huggers wouldn't look so good but this is a pleasant surprise.
I still prefer the shorter style but no doubt the one you have there is dang near a proper mud guard and will offer great protection for you and the bike.
Since I found it on a dealer info sheet, I wonder why none of us had this info already. This does not look like a new information release, thanks (not) to all those dealers we've been asking the same question.
thank you for that thompcat. I am trying to get the ducks in a row pending arrival, one item it looks like I will get is the hugger followed by the cylinder guards.
BTY -
I contacted a compy that makes front fender extensions for bikes. Found them in my ON mag, but I am at work now and can't remember their name. They will be putting out ext for the R9T front fender in about 2 mos.
chrisho
It's a two part piece ,the stay that attaches to the shaft is cast alloy and a dull aluminium colour that dosnt match the 9Ts finish ,and the actual hugger is Matt black plastic
So yep it's easy for painting
Captain, have you been out in the rain with your new hugger on yet? Does it prevent splash up onto the back seat / hump or the back of your passenger, as the case may be?
I rode in light rain over weekend. My jacket had a light film of fine sand like particles on it. Not to mention up under wheel arch and rear spring. Im getting a hugger. But which one ! Why cant there be a factory black one like front wheel. How hard is that !?

Yes I have.

No it doesn't.
When I returned after a very wet ride, my back and the tail cowl were clearly dirty from the road spray.
It looks like the water comes off the back tyre and goes straight past either side of the thin tail between the back seat/cowl and tail-light.
I see the only way to avoid this is a full mudguard.
With the hugger, the underside and spring area didn't look too bad considering.
After a few aggravations I chased down a Puig hugger, mainly because I thought the look is right with the aluminium bracket. Liked the mat 'plastic' fender which kinda matched machine sat Moto cylinder protectors.
BUT
Doesn't realistically protect much. Design is too short so water/crud still gets thrown up in the wet. Pillion not happy. I'm happy being further forward but not a great piece of kit.
Still don't mind the looks but I'm also looking for something. Might get a custom fender and use the Puig mounting bracket.
