I came to BMW as a Kawasaki, Harley, and Ducati rider that was not entirely content with what I had discovered with all of my previous motorbikes. I felt as though I was rationing miles between services with the Ducati, as it is quite maintenance intensive. The Harley felt lack luster in the handling department, but what should I have expected from a raked out bobber? The Kawaski was great, but I never got the distinct "Wow, I LOVE this motorbike" feeling. They were all fantastic machines, though not what I needed out of two wheels. This prompted me to look for a bike that I could ride somewhat indiscriminately, and all of the time free of the fear of "over-use". I also needed something with timeless aesthetic appeal and heritage, something that would excite me each time I saw and/or rode it. I thought of buying another, more sporty Harley, but I had recently gotten rid of my 2011 Harley Street Bob as I wanted something that was more apt in the curves. I had my 2012 Ducati 848 EVO that was just that, but relatively high maintenance. So, instead of having two bikes, I wanted one that combined healthy doses of all of those characteristics, baring the high maintenance of course. I could think of no other bike than the BMW R Nine T. My local dealer had an amazing deal on a NOS 2017 Pure, and I traded my Ducati in to leave with the Pure that day. I haven't looked back since.
