My daily bike is a 1977 KZ1000. I was wondering what changes to expect when I buy my RnineT? The KZ takes off like a bat out of ****. I hear the bats are even faster now. My KZ has rims with spokes and of course I have tubes. I experienced my first flat in 37 years this past riding season. I have a tool kit under the seat. The seat swings open and is able to lock helmuts. The seat is fairly comfortable for both the driver and passenger. The passengers footpegs are in a comfortable location. My KZ has both an electric and kick starter. I have a center and a side kick stand. The locking mechanism for the front wheel is on the stearing stem accessed from under the headlight.

I am going to miss some of these features.

I know guys that ride bikes older than 77's, every day the weather allows. Nothing is telling you you have to change. I drive a 77 car 2-3 days a week every summer. (Indiana winters are rough on classics, its stored). Also, you might even consider keeping it, if you get a NineT. Many of the guys here (not me) have 3-4 bikes or more!

G'day Bill, That Kwaka of Yours is a very desirable bike, and even without seeing it, I'm sure, a thing of great beauty! If I was in possession of such a machine, and able to keep it, and acquire an R Nine T, I would most definitely do so!! I think You are in an enviable position to make an educated comparison between two bikes that will always be held in high regard! Enjoy

Well...my KZ is not a thing of beauty. The bike was left idle for many years, possibly more than 15 years. Chrome has flaked off one of the exhaust pipes. The seat cover has finally cracked and needs to be replaced. I questioned thowing money at the KZ or buying a new bike.

As far as keeping it, I don't really have the space for it. But I have not decided against making some space.

Well...my KZ is not a thing of beauty. The bike was left idle for many years, possibly more than 15 years. Chrome has flaked off one of the exhaust pipes. The seat cover has finally cracked and needs to be replaced. I questioned thowing money at the KZ or buying a new bike.

As far as keeping it, I don't really have the space for it. But I have not decided against making some space.

Seat covers are cheap, even good ones are reasonable. And....check out the thread about ceramic coating the pipes. A professional shop can sandblast, primer coat, and ceramic coat your pips in about any sexy color you want. Old bikes (that run) are good bikes.
