As far as we knnow now the Nine T will be powered by a Air oil-cooled flat twin Boxer 4-stroke engine, two camshafts and four radially aligned valves per cylinder, central balancer shaft (shaft driven), 6 speed transmission, dry clutch.

From all this info gather we should be looking at just over 110 horsepower with about 80-90 ft lbs torque.

I hope the motor is silver and not black like shown in the spy shots. If it's to be retro, there were no black motors back in the day. I prefer silver not only for the retro look but if there is a leak, you can see it and trace it easily. Also, the motor looks cleaner IMHO.

Chain driven as in camshafts or final drive? This is a shafty for sure!

One problem with black cases is that the front gets gravel blast and will have little white specs in no time. The silver paint BMW uses on motors cleans up really nicely. There have been choices on motor color on a couple models in the past, maybe available on the 9T, too.

I was kind of hoping for the HP2 motor. That would be special indeed.

Looking forward to see some light shed on the hp2 motor maybe somewhere down the pipelin it will come up.

BMW Press Group Site

Is this still speculation? Or is any of this solid at all?
Press kits have been released and this website has by far the most comprehensive info to date. Check out the pdf download and you'll have BMW's most up to date info on specs, tech data, marketing strategies, accessory options and tons of photos. This thing is a reality now, pricing should be the only to speculate on now along with variations between models released in different markets. https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/pressclub/p/pcgl/pressDetail.html?title=the-new-bmw-r-ninet&outputChannelId=6&id=T0148127EN&left_menu_item=node__8300

Good call on that zippo. is it possible you post up the correct illustrations then?
No problem! It's already there.

The main picture (the full engine cut away in the first post) is the boy right there. That's a 1200 "hex head". Something slightly different going on with the valve covers though.....maybe just aesthetics.

I think it's going to be the same engine box and final drive as the R1200R. Which is a perfect package for the Nine T as it is.

Now I wonder...........could I get a DOHC lump to fit in there........am I getting ahead of myself??

Zippo.

Engine valve head covers

I've kept my oe alloy head covers from my triple black and will get them powder coated satin black to blend between the gloss of the tank and frame but also the flat black of the plastics .
Carbon is oh so expensive and very thin ,yes strong bit there's not a lot on a long slide to stop valve damage :D

Lowered Transmission Ratios

When reading the BMW factory press release, there are several unstated comparisons to, I believe, the current R1200R. In that vein, it states, "In keeping with the dynamic character of the nineT, the secondary transmission ratio of the pinion and ring gear has been lowered for optimum accelerating power and the smoothest possible gear shifts." I assume as compared to the R1200R so, go to BMWs website and do the model comparison where I do indeed see the lower gearing reflected. Other performance stats such as lower fuel efficiency and slightly differing torque values (119 Nm vs 115Nm) probably reflect the lower gearing
