I'm number 5 on my dealer's list, and from what he's been told by BMW he is confident that I will get mine (BMW wouldn't lie), but he doesn't expect it to arrive until sometime in June. When does BMW change model years? Right now, all the 2014 models are out, but when did they change?

I'm thinking maybe I would only have to wait a few more months for a 2015, and by then I might have the option of getting wheels that don't require tubes. I hate having to spend thousands more for a second set of wheels that should have come on it in the first place.

The model change takes place after the plant vacation period. Normally in July/August.
All machines that are produced after these vacations are allowed to be named Model XX. For example Greg's GS LC, built and delivered '13, but model '14.
The other was round: when you get your nineT in July 14, it's a '14 model !

Good luck with your wishes on non tubed tyres on your 15 model NSX,but whilst all 14 models will be sold with tubed spoked rims (no options), and without doubt demand will outstrip supply until the second build is available, but unfortunately whilst there's demand and sales high, I can't see any options ever being announced unless there's a major fault with the current spec wheels  sorry IMHO only of course ;):D

I think that they will make another model year of the nineT. I don't have much basis for an opinion on this, but why stop at one year if it is selling well? 2015 models wouldn't come out until late next year. I wouldn't wait for the next model year if I were you though. There could be no next model year or it will be quite a long wait.

I'd be surprised there wouldn't be a second and even a third year.
There is an upcoming regulation in Eu that will force BMW to have the water-cooled engine on all his bikes to be in accordance with the pollution standards, but i don't know when that will be .

are we sure NineT is going to get a second model year? I'd love to see it stick around but I was under the impression the NineT was going to be an anniversary model...
they will keep making this bike.
You can trust me on that one as well.
It is possible, however, there will be more color choices and something else done to the bike for 2015 year

that law will find BMW in a quandary. Just because my 2014 GS is liquid cooled there's nothing to indicate the bike has lower emissions, whatsoever.
BMW has had admissions on its motorcycles for a long time.

I believe that my 1996 R1100 RT have lower emissions than a Harley Davidson last year... :D

Hmmm, emissions testing is getting more savage in europe each year. . .

Personally, I don't think this bike will run for years. I believe its an experiment (all be it a great one) to see if they could change the perceived demographic BMW bikes appeal to. Maybe it will run for 2015. I'm sure they have been surprised by how quickly orders have come in, but I don't personally get the feel they intended to run it as a production bike into the future.

AHH, ok, ok. I'm just worried. I shouldn't really be buying a new bike this year but I've talked myself into it with the NineT. I would prefer to wait but was concerned they would be extinct by then and I would have to pry one out of someone. I do not forsee many cropping up in the used market...

you aren't far off, obviously. As we know BMW tried this before with the R1200 C. I know many have that bike who are part of this forum and waiting for their R nineT. the problem with that bike was BMW tried to get the Harley crowd so strongly they offered the same pathetic/anemic horsepower and the bike was a disaster in terms of sales. at least they put a real motor in the bike this time.

I hope that the bike is a success at least in terms of the fact they are creating a machine that can be customizable.

Next maybe BMW will get their heads out of their butts and learn how they can make money by selling clothing at a reasonable price that people want. I have discussed this earlier but we all know the Harley Davidson crowd who are willing to buy five T-shirts at every single Harley Davidson dealer in the country. Even Ducati has learned the value of selling T-shirts. BMW makes three shirts and a bunch of overpriced other gear. It is a global world more so now than ever and how BMW continues to not care about taking care of folks who want to buy logo gear is so far beyond me I can't understand it

do they usually change the color every year?
BMW was always changed the color of every bike it makes every year by adding some colors and subtracting others. Whether or not they will for this kind of anniversary edition bike is something not yet known. However, if they do choose to make it for 2015 they almost have to change the color so that we "see" something different about it because surely they aren't going to change anything else about the bike because it's so customizable

I am going to give the same comment here that i have in every single forum in which I have been a member:

please don't let the excitement of all the other members here encourage you to make a poor decision for yourself. Many people have spent money they shouldn't because they were somehow convinced to do so by being a member of such a community is this. You're a great guy and were happy to have you here whether or not you ever buy this bike. motorcycles are "unnecessary" purchases almost 100% of the time. every single bike I've purchased was a bad financial decision because of the money you lose two seconds after you write it off the lot. For me every single bike I've ever purchased has been a wonderful "mental health" decision, however.

the finances of every member here is none of my business or anyone else's. I just don't want to see people spending money they shouldn't just because they want to be like everybody else.

I'm off my soapbox... :D

Do you think they will offer the NineT in other colors in the future. Seems like it will only come in black from how things are going.

Kind words clearwater thank you :D Wifey would castrate me if i came home with a brand new bike so soon after restoing my 69 Camaro. I told her no more toys for a bit hehehhhh

But exactly as you put it, an excellent mental health decision :D

Back to the color discussion, could we get some excitement going for the R90s original color??

Oh dear oh dear I hope BMW never do such colours and I'm glad it's being kept in the colour available ,leaving the purchaser to put their own mark on the bike .,A bike can look very wrong in some colours ,I'm glad of the traditional guise the 9T will come in as that Ducati looks very cheap in the picture posted ;)IMHO
