New to me R9T w/ vintage paint scheme option. Any one know the significance of the #21? I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but I could not find it.

I thought it had something to do with BMW's old time racing. Thank you very much.
The flat twin was introduced in 1921. Article here

Thanks for all the responses. I think JACO166 is spot on, although the others were pretty good too.

I politely request a video clip of your Zard exhaust please, and any information about Flapperectomy.

Thank you.

I tried, but it would not let me. I guess I'm not that tech savvy. Sorry. Send me a private note w/ your e-mail. I can send it that way.

You can also see a video on "youtube" with the same exhaust, except in chrome. Should sound the same.

Thats my answer when asked about my no 21,

There is a thread in the forum which discussed the option 719 paint scheme on the R nine T Roadster that displayed the number "21", and there was various theories about historical numbers for racers that raced for BMW, etc. One theory was that the model number "K21" was the reason.

I believe this is the case because the Scrambler model is "K23", so this looks like it is holding true.

That’s a miracle that only German speaking people know about: https://www.bmw-motorrad.de/de/individualisation/option-719.html

Neil Allen, BMW Motorrad UK PR & Communications Manager.

“The number 21 is a reference to the internal model code that BMW had for the R nineT when building it,” he explained. Glancing through the manufacturer’s website, I then noted the number 719 on the side of a rather splendid red and blue coloured R nineT. This relates to the ‘Option 719’ customisation/accessories arm of BMW Motorrad, where it is possible to spec up the heritage range with some lovely paint jobs, billet packs, etc. And lovely paint jobs they are, too.
