Every time I throw a leg over, I am pleasantly reminded just how versatile and authentic the R NineT is. Whether touring, scratching and/or tootling around, it makes motorcycling easy and enjoyable whatever the circumstances. What an amazing machine which has united us all together on this forum from all over the world.

Beautiful beautiful bike !

Whats your solution for having light on your license plate ?
Thanking you @Error Flynn 🙏 Long story short, I have retained the original BMW rear light which has a licence plate illumination light directly under the brake light. It just so happens that the license plate light shines down at an angle, and just about catches the license plate when mounted on the Wunderlich swingarm bracket in its highest position. It is not perfect and, in truth, I have not had the bike tested against the UK government standard (the MOT) yet. I am hopeful it will pass…

Looks terrific!! (y)

I completely agree with your sentiments above. This motorcycle is a blast to ride, fast or slow, short trips or long days, and it's more versatile than most people think. And this forum is indeed a great place!

Beautiful build!
Do you notice a difference with the steering dampener?
Hi there @CafeR9T ; thank you and in short, yes, a significant difference in terms of lightness of steering, especially at lower speeds and manoeuvring the bike around.

Link to thread below goes into more detail on my review of the Touratech steering damper:-

Link to wider thread on steering dampers across the forum (e.g. Ohlins, Hyperpro, etc) if you'd like to do a bit more research

Hope this helps; happy riding.

Thanks @BlitzSchnell 🙏 For me at least, this forum has become a significant element of the R Nine T ownership experience. The kindness and willingness of members much like yourself to share experience, impart wisdom and provide advice really does bring out the best in people. It is also fascinating to see all the different cultures, scenery and personalities; are all the richer for this. One day I hope I get the chance to visit your beautiful Texas.

Keep safe mate 👍

Great job, does indeed look very inviting to throw your leg over, which is what it’s all about.

I notice though you haven’t done anything about rain/mud protection at the rear end. Any thoughts going forward?

Hi @Stotti , apologies for the delayed reply, been away a few days camping with family. I used to have the GS rear mudguard installed on the R Nine T which helped mitigate rear wheel spray, however decided to replace this with a swingarm mounted license plate instead. Main reason was that the tail tidy and GS mudguard used to bash into each other on big potholes, albeit the tail tidy did help improve the clearance compared to the original license plate mount. The thread linked below shows what I mean.
GS Rear Mudguard and Tail Tidy Compatibility

For now the situation is OK given that I don’t commute any more (daily commute now includes school run with three kids), however on my old R1200R I had both the GS mudguard and Wunderlich rear hugger installed and it worked a dream to minimise mud and rain. When touring I now keep a set of lightweight water proof layers and just accept that I’ll have to give the bike and luggage a good clean when I get home.

Hope this helps; all the best.

EDIT: Just remembered the following wonderful thread which covers all sorts of ideas and options to reduce rear wheel spray - very useful for riders who ride all year round
Rear wheel water spray on back during rain riding
