Just spoke to a bloke at Southbank BMW in Melbourne. he reckons late march early april before they see their first nine t's and he expects about $23 k on road. they want $1000 for a deposit. also said that they are under the impression it'll only be produced for a year but I struggle to see why they'd hobble sales if the things fly out the door as they anticipate it will.
anyway. $23k is a bit rude for a bike BMW themselves describe as a "Blank Canvas...." Closer to $18k i would have thought is more realistic.......

You'd best get one ordered then zippy before your left wanting:)
It won't be a one year bike either or they would all be numbered as a special one off limited bike ,with a nice solid gold 9T plaque on the bars r:D:D
Once the spares bins from old and new bikes have dried up for the 9T production then itL finish ,but it's a cash cow for now so it's going to be milked for all its worth by BMW ,IMHO ;):D

Sounds like you spoke to someone who doesn't know a thing about what they are talking about.
Hope it is a reflection on the dealer themselves.
There is no way the FIRST R nineT will arrive in Australia as late as April
also, that price he gave you unless he is intending on marking the price way up secondary to popularity.
I would call someone else if I were you.

I won't be complaining about 23k! As a long time BMW customer, history has shown Me that You get what You pay for.
I agree but that will not be the price in Australia, somebody at the dealership is trying to get more than MSRP.
I know that does happen but I would never go to a dealership that does that.

i wondered if he might have had his hand on it a bit but it's a bmw owned dealership, the biggest in the state and he's the sales manager. still, he is a salesman........

true. i'm on my second beemer and am not looking to go elsewhere but $23k for a bare-bones roadster with no new engineering to speak of and an aircooled engine is profiteering of a maginitude normally the domain of ducati! it's exclusivity is surely limited to as many units as they can possibly sell until the air cooled no longer passes emissions regs? when they're asking about the same for a k1300r is it really worth it?

From what I can gather, there has been no firm pricing confirmed at this stage by any dealer. I have worked on a 23k ride "Ride Away" price. As estimated by My dealer. You can subtract from this an amount of almost $1500, (in Queensland) for dealer delivery, stamp duty, compulsory third party insurance and registration. I'm of the mind that We won't put the cart before the horse. Come sometime in March, the dealer will call Mr & Mrs Chumba to say that the R nine T is ready to survey. At that time a decision will be made, based on merit! Between now and then, I imagine there will be much speculation and estimation, at the end of it all, if You like, You buy! P.S I have priced a K1300s at current prices, ride away: $25490.90 AUD.

Jesus 20,836 Australian dollars = £11,600 pounds and then you have all your import taxes ,shipping costs ect ect it does make a 9T an expensive toy and you've got to really want it :D so chumba your pricing is very realistic I would of thought;)enjoy it whatever you pay and when ever it arrives :D:D

Yep, Your bang on with the dollars Bose! But It's all relative to income, cost of living etc. For example, a Jap bike like a Kawasaki ZX14 is $19,999. or a Busa $18,990. These are list prices, without on road costs. A Grisso 1200 8v se is $21,990. Plus on road costs. It's interesting that the big bore 4 cylinder Jap bikes have not really cracked the 20k barrier in more than 10 years! However, 6 and a half years ago, My K1200s was $28,000 on road.

Those jap pieces don't have to travel as far ,so cheaper all round bike /taxes/parts/shipping.
Anything from the other side you unfortunately will pay a premium for the privilege
How's the summer for you ,good riding I bet ;):D

Perfect riding weather at the moment, It was about 22c (75f or so) on Sunday morning, however by mid afternoon things get a little sweaty at 30c (80 something).

You live in paradise, mate.

The 80s F in a North Carolina summer is a cooling breath of fresh air.

90s (nine-Ts?) are the norm, and it tops 100 several times a season.

And we don't even want to think about the humidity.

That's probably why my boys moved back to the desert in West Texas. It's a dry heat. Much like living in Alice Springs.

Yeah Mikeo, I'd have to agree with You. We are quite spoilt here. Our winters are mild, We may see the odd morning that starts off around 35f, but it warms up pretty quickly. And as for summer, We may see one or two 100f for the season at most. And in My home town, 600mtrs above sea level, Humidity is usually fairly low aswell. I'll stay put I think! My nearest BMW dealer is about 80 miles away, but We usually take the back way, which extends it to an enjoyable and more twisty 100 miles.

Motorcycle heaven

And if Chumba wants to get to see the MotoGP or Superbikes at Phillip Island he has the pleasure of riding 1,000 miles south with a mix of coastal and inland roads down eastern Australia to 'test' his 9T for all its worth.

Except he then has to turn around and ride back all the way. What a joy.

Funny you mention it Petrichor! Mrs Chumba and I did that run this year. We left Toowoomba on October 14 and headed toward Phillip Island. We took a lazy 5 nights to head down, attended the Moto GP, and then strolled home across the next two weeks. 5422km 21 nights and loads of fun. Chumba on his K1200s and Mrs Chumba on Her Suzuki Gsx650f. The new Nine T is actually Mrs Chumba's upgrade into the big bore world. But I'm sure I'll have ample opportunity to carry out "road tests" on a regular basis however!
