I just read about the BMW Fuel Pump Recall. Apparently, bolts on the fuel pump were over torqued. Affects a lot of BMW models, see list below.

BMWK 1600 GT2011 – 2014
BMWK 1600 GTL2011 – 2014
BMWR 1200 GS2011 – 2014
BMWR 1200 GS ADVENTURE2011 – 2014
BMWR 1200 R2011 – 2014

Under this recall, BMW will replace the fuel pumps with an “improved version”. All repairs will be carried out free of charge.

Dealers have already been notified of the recall program. BMW will commence notifying owners of the affected bikes on April 02, 2021.

For additional information, owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Or they may call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Additional information is also available online at NHTSA’s

Perfect timing!!! Got my letter today! About one month ago the bike started idling very rough and shutting down on start up unless I gave it a little bit of throttle for a few minutes. Also a very strong smell of fuel. There was also a knocking sound of sorts. The bike is just been sitting in the garage as I was afraid to ride it and was planning to get to the dealer at some point. Now I’m sure it’s the fuel pump as the recall letter says if you smell strong fuel you could have the issue.
