Notice in these spy shots, the NineT has a single sided swing and the lack of noticeable chain coupled with BMW History point directly to a shaft driven final.

Clearly the NineT is not going to be about performance as the single sided swing suffers from torsional differences between left and right, while the shaft drive adds additional unsprung weight.

But it does make sense for the NineT, which is after all a throw back to 90 years of BMW motorbike production, to show up shaft driven. The first bike BMW ever produced in 1923 the R32 was shaft driven....

I can't wait to see the Nine T in it's true form, possesing looks and performance back all the way to the 70's when they had the original R90s. The air cooled engine is as raw as it can get. After 90 years, what a bike to bring back. Retro styling with all the new technology.

Me too but it seems like if you live in North America, seeing one any time soon won't happen. It might just start being released in European nations and eventually make it's way to NA.

Whaaaaaat????? My bike is shaft driven?????? Wondered why my rear wheel never got covered in oil.....
Or it means you're not running synthetic oil. Or so I've read...

Does the bike in the pic look a bit odd? Do the forks seem to have a lot of angle and the space from the front engine cover and head pipes to the front wheel look a bit large? Like maybe pre-production bikes (prototypes) had more steering head angle? Or it could be the angle the picture was taken from or just how I'm looking at it.

DANG...my dealer charged me for a chain adjustment at my last R9T service ...wtf!!!!
... there's probably a chain or two inside the engine somewhere ... but usually BMW's super advanced futuristic engineers couple those with an automatic vacuum-actuated chain tensioner, which eventually can also be linked to a fly-by-wire upgrade once they have to comply with E8 emission regulation. Maybe your dealer's just thorough?

Lol ?

I don't want to say, "Say what?" So instead I just want to say that I totally don't understand . Was the report of a chain adjustment fee just tongue in cheek? The dealer being thorough? Also a tongue in cheek response, as well? AF
