I'd like to see some more road test articles before I put down a refundable deposit.
refundable?
did you mean NON-refundable
because if it's refundable, what difference does it make?

Go to any BMW dealer and they will tell you that they are only going to get about 5 Nine-T's next year (1000 deposit refundable) and if you don't want it upon delivery somebody else will. My dealer sold 2 already. That's what they told me.

My deposit was described as refundable, on the same principle! I got the impression that the attitude was that if person "A" didn't want it, they'd move to the next on the list. I guess, that They are aware of the level of interest, and have few concerns of being stuck without a buyer.

Only you can decide at the bike is right for you.
However if the deposit is completely refundable, and you care to spend that money, then there is no reason to put your money down in case you want the bike.
You could always change your mind later.
As I've always said please don't let everyone here and their excitement about this new bike convince you to buy if it is not the right purchase for you

The adult me wants the Nine-T, but the kid in me wants a new shiny red S1000-R, but if people see me doing wheelies and doughnuts in underground parking lots they are going to say I've got a serious mid-life problem.

Just get both :D

S1000RR for when you really want to let out the Moto GP in you and the NineT for cruising around at night in the city.

On the refundable deposit subject, I worked on the principle that by placing a deposit, it put Us (wife and I) in the Queue. Without some form of financial commitment, We would appear to be just another Tyre kicker. The dealer was more than happy to accept our deposit with the understanding between both parties that if the cycle turned out to be unsuitable for whatever reason ie: ergonomics or seat height, for example, then the deposit would be refunded, and Our opportunity would be passed down the line.

Oz dealers

Same as Chumba.

They have my $1,000 for 4 or 5 months as my sign of good faith so that goes a long way for them to reciprocate.

It all just depends, the s1000r really caught a lot of attention at Eicma but so did the ninet. And it has to do with what kind of riding you do majority of the time too.
