Some people may be thinking about the other bikes that BMW has on sale. The nineT is very similar in numbers to the F 800 GS Adventure, so I thought that I would compare them here.
BMW nineT
BMW F 800 GS
Engine
nineT: Air/oil-cooled flat twin ('Boxer') 4-stroke engine, two camshafts and four radially aligned valves per cylinder, central balancer shaft
F 800 GS: Water-cooled 4-stroke in-line two-cylinder engine, four valves per cylinder, two overhead camshafts, dry sump lubrication
Horse power
nineT: 110 @ 7,550 rpm
F 800 GS: 85 @ 7,500
Torque
nineT: 88 lb/ft @ 6,000 rpm
F 800 GS: 61 lb/ft @ 5,750 rpm
Max Speed
nineT: over 125 mph
F 800 GS: 120 mph
Fuel Consumption
nineT: 52 mpg at a constant 56 mph
F 800 GS: 55 mpg, at a constant 55 mph
Wheelbase
nineT: 58.1"
F 800 GS: 62.1"
So that isn't every spec that is listed by BMW but I think it gives a good base for comparison. The F800GS Adventure is meant more for exploring and longer trips than the nineT. We don't have an MSRP on the BMW nineT yet, but the F800GS has a starting price of $13,550. I am guessing that the nineT will be a bit more expensive than that. Somewhere north of $15,500.
The nineT will give you better performance numbers. It has a higher top speed and more horse power and twist than the F800GS. The F800GS does win out on fuel consumption though. Ultimately both bikes are great and it comes down to what type of bike is best suited to you.
