Toob Noob

Never having had a tubed tire on one of my bikes, what's the big deal?

Why all the hubbub bub?

I never heard any old timers say " I sure loved riding my (insert old brand name here) motorcycle back in the day, but dang those tubed tires!"

What am I missing?

For the average schmuck, not much. But to most BMW riders that think they are Robbie Racer, or some DOT Safetycrat - it means everything, even though 90% will never even come close to riding the limits of their tires.

Thanks Frank. Kinda thought so.

I've used plugs for my tubeless tires in the past, which is super easy and has held without incident. The only inconvenience I see in fixing a tube, is just dealing with the tire/bead issue. Anyone here have a tire tool they recommend? I think Harbor Freight has one that's gotten some decent reviews on the other bmw forums.

A little thin skinned I guess, but that is to be expected.

Just so's all ya'll know, I've been riding since '69. I've owned Yamihammers, Norton's, Kawalski's, and I've been on BMW's since 1977. I've patched tubes, and plugged tires. If there's something about a particular bike that I want to change, I change it, but I don't bitch at the manufacturer for their design. If I don't like their design, I modify it to suit me, or I just don't buy the product.

I stand by BMW's choice of wheels and tubed tires. If I decide I don't like them, I can always change them.

And if I've hurt someone's feelings, oh well... I'm not here to advance the conversation, I'm here to annoy you...

Not a bad deal. I forgot about this but I was suppose to pick one up a few years back.

Ok, now I remeber why I didn't, you need a balancer too. Are you getting one of those as well?

Yeah, I'd get the balancer as well. The hydraulic tool would be awesome. But hopefully I won't have * that * much need for it. Let's hope. But it would be such a great thing to have.

Harbor freight tools can be cheaply made, I agree. My blue aluminum car jack I got from them is simply amazing. I think it was 99 bucks. So I guess quality varies a whole lot there. Where did u get your weaver at Cruzin?

I've always used Marc Parnes balancers, quality product, work great. I highly doubt I will ever mount enough tires to pay for the Weaver (1K), but since motorcycles , and all associated farkles, apparel, bits and pieces, are just expensive toys nothing ever has to be justified, just enjoyed.

I bought mine from derekweaver.com, already had a compressor so I did not need to purchase that. The older I get the more I like it!

It sure takes some time using the parnes balancer but if you like to be involved and know everybit then its right for you. Takes alot of patience. I guess it would be a good tool to have during winter to kill sometime.

Ok, so I get a flat (I live in Los Angeles, so a flat IS in my future. All the unicorns are dead here, and the rainbows fizzled out a while back ). With my other bikes I patch and go, or if needed I take the wheel off and get a new tire fitted while I wait. Return, put wheel on. Go for sushi.

But without a center stand option.... Um... Uh....

Why this didn't occur to me until just now I can't say.

What type of bike is it?

Maybe a triple tree type stand with interchangable pins to stick under to the triple tree hole.

Too bad I'm not near you but I would be more than happy to lend you mine for the time being.

What are your options as of right now?

Sorry NineTJoe, I guess in my effort to be clever I inadvertently made my post confusing.
At least it's good to know I still got it. Lol

No I meant I WILL be getting a flat on the R NINE T without a doubt. And since there isn't a center stand on it, does that mean a ride home to get your paddock stand, then back to the bike, then jack up your bike, leave it on the stand while it sits roadside while u get your tire fitted? Then back to the bike, put tire on, find a ride home for your paddock stand?

The other option is a tow truck for a flat tire?

That's what I'm asking.

I sure hope I'm wrong about what I read on here about no center stand being offered.
