to me, being seen and seeing is the most important thing even more important than the styling of a particular motorcycle. Where I live lights, front and rear are critical to survival

my sidecar rig:

my new '14 GS:

now.....
obviously there is no way to discreetly add lights to the front of the R nineT and I don't want anyone to be worried that I will. I truly understand the look of this motorcycle and that is one of the things that attracted me to it in the first place. However I will do some kind of an HID conversion to the front headlight even if the increase in color temperature makes the bike look unusual. The 3500 Kelvin light will do it for me so I will increase to about 5500 Kelvin. I'm not sure if a kit will EVER be available to do that for this sort of a bike.

I understand to some of you this will be blasphemy but I wonder how I might be able to see better and be seen better without ruining the look of this classic/retro motorcycle.

please help me.
As always, thank you in advance.

You might consider a Xenon kit for the original headlight ?
I hope that one will be available because there is no way to change the lens because that is the look of the bike and sometimes in HID conversion kit won't give the same spray of light down the road. I'll figure it out and will probably find a way to put two small but powerful LED lights hidden somewhere inside the frame to shine light down the road at night, to make the bike much more conspicuous during the daytime, and to give the classic triangle look that is so important to keep you alive while riding

Greg, Wunderlich has a pair of rather discrete micro floaters.
I planned to put those on my R1200R but changed my mind for some more retro looking single light.
do you happen to have a link to the specific item of which you speak?
Thank you so much

one guy with a grom even went to a full light bar conversion on the front end..

throws pretty good

Light bar headlight for the Honda Grom - YouTube
Are those USD gold forks on the Grom? I wondered where BMW took its retro styling cue from for the nineT;)

I'm not sure I would mess up the looks of the front of the nineT with a light box like that, but a row of hi intensity red lights hanging off the back of the luggage/pannier rack (still in pre-planning) may not be such a bad idea:D

I'm not sure car drivers in front will appreciate this kind of lights.
i guarantee they won't.... and might be illegal in the US, quite frankly

I also support the Grom with the lightbar. I'm not sure that I would put a lightbar on the nineT just because of the style of the bike. I cant say for sure if I will even touch the headlight. It is nice that it is a classic round headlight. Maybe I would get a different bulb to make it a bit brighter.

that is a more serious conversion

gotta get rid of the headlights for that

you can just get small round lights to add to the front that are LED and those should give you alot of extra light.
as you know, I have lights and have had lights on every single motorcycle I've owned. This is the first one I'm truly concerned about messing with the look by installing lights that I would want. I will figure it out and electronic wizards at my dealership will find a way to install them tastefully
