I have been mulling over a variety of personalisation options. Number plates came into consideration. It's a bit naff but - hey who cares. We have the option for to personalise our plates with up to 5 number/letter combinations.

A search shows me the obvious are unavailable because others got in before me so I'm not the only idle daydreamer.

GONE are R90, R9T, NINET, BMW90,BMW9T, and permutations thereof ....

In frustration I have reserved BXR90 to acknowledge 90 years of boxer BMW's and include the model # R90. Any other bright ideas out there.

Remember combo letters and numbers = maximum 5

A hint - our motor registry can decline naughty words or suggestions.:eek

What would you choose?

If you could, what number plate would you like within those parameters?

The time I lived in Germany, I always had my initials and my year of birth on the plate.
Now in Switzerland, you can be glad to get a low number. In Switzerland, every Kanton/State has his State-letters and continuous numbers. As the plate sticks to the holder, not to the vehicule, a number that is gone is gone for a long time.

N1N3T, or N1NET would work too. Is it much more expensive to have a novelty plate over a regular one?

I think its only worth getting if you can find a clever combination of numbers and letters.

Maverick,

Here the cost depends on what combinations of letters &/or numbers you have. I imagine it's the same wherever you can customise.

I would hesitate to put my year of birth on my plates.

I'm not entirely sure on the conditions of personalised plate ownership in New South Wales, Australia, however in Queensland, once purchased, a number plate is Yours for life. Some combinations are limited to certain plate types/vehicle. The following are available, Yours for life, or to be sold on with vehicle:R9T $3500AUD,R90$3500AUD,AHH90 $445,ARR90 $445,ARH90 $445.Other combos are available, these are just a few that I tried. I have personalised plates, as they are known here, on a few of My vehicles, and a couple of them are over a decade old, and I didn't pay anything close to the prices I've quoted above. The scoundrels seem to increase the price every year or so! I do like the option to colour code a number plate to Your bike, and mix in a letter/number combo that relates to Your pride and joy.

So you get charged for the personalized plate once?

Here in North Carolina, (US), they charge you an additional fee every year. It's not a lot of money, currently $30 USD. My wife and I have personalized plates on our cars, but I never had one on the bike.

Still, I might get one for the new machine. It certainly makes it easier to remember what your license plate number is when asked.

Here in blighty we have a one off fee for the plate purchase + fee to transfer onto the bike ,then the plate must only be used on a bike and can't be transferred onto a car  so it has to be a good choice
So as it's a special bike and a keeper I'm looking at a plate R90 NTE ,as a plate reading 9T is £90,000 over here and not much option of anything else ,I have found a R90WMB which is  if your dyslexic :D:D

Congratulations on the plate purchase! It's always a tough decision to choose the right one. I'll mull it over for a while I think.
