Hey everyone,

I'm very excited to say we're finally shipping the beautiful tail tidy myself and my good friend Sal have been working on for you all. It's the first of many products we'll be making, but for now, I hope you can all enjoy the view of this nice piece of kit, and maybe even pick one up at dmoto.co!

Some quick answers for those wondering.

– Yes, we ship internationally (frankly, that seems like all we're doing).

– pricing right now for our launch to forum members is $549.00 for the tidy, and $599.00 for the tidy with the license plate adapter. We'll also have a version packaged with our swing arm mount for a special bundled price as well, when it's available.

– Yes, the tail tidy works beautifully with the pillion seat, see here for proof.

(this one doesn't have a light strip installed but it should get the point across!)

Please feel free to message me or [email protected] for any questions you might have!

Cheers,

Ian

Any chance of it fitting to a bobber set up?

Hey Aha, unfortunately this part won't work with a bobber configuration, since that does away with the entire mounting structure our part relies on!

What would you say is the advantage of this setup over the competition?
Howdy Mike,

I think there's a number of benefits.. Primarily, the build quality is leagues above the rest. I'd say it's easily even better than the OEM components themselves. We really pride ourselves on the quality of the craftsmanship and design. For instance, should you want to switch between the stock cowl and the Pillion seat, a fixed height unit would leave you with a large gap if the pillion seat is equipped. So our unit is a simple two piece design; you just unscrew two bolts (OEM hardware, so it's the same size as what you'd use for everything else), lift the light strip plate, and put down two spacers into a slick little guided pin assembly. It couldn't be any easier. Same with cable routing. A well placed cutout has been made, so the cable routing is kept neat and tidy, with the whole wiring loom in a nice abrasive resistant sheath.

Also for those who want to use an external license plate light, we ship the parts with an external plug (complete with both ends of the plug assembly) so our tail tidy can be used with any existing swing arm assembly, easy as could be. No wiring nonsense to figure out.

It really is a world of difference from our machined, then anodized, then polished billet turn key solution compared to some bent sheet metal or plastic monstrosity some guy bent and drilled together in a garage! But maybe I'm a little biased with a high bar, my background is in aerospace after all!

Cheers,

Ian

Hi Ian, Sal,

Congratulations on getting your tail tidy to market, it looks very good indeed.

When I last exchanged messages with Sal he noted that you were working on a solution to use the tail tidy with separate rear indicators, this is how I would prefer to run mine.

Could you please give us an update in this?

Cheers,

Hey KK,

We've got the mechanical solution all sorted out, looks good, but we're working on the wiring aspect. Since we pride ourselves on everything being turn-key and well done, we wanted to have all the wiring sorted out. However if you're feeling a bit more adventurous than perhaps we could get you the hardware and you could sort out the wiring, if that would be ok than we could have something out within a few weeks (machining plus anodizing takes a bit).

Cheers!

Could you please expand a bit more on what you mean by "you could sort out the wiring", what kind of thing would be required? Also, do you anticipate supplying a set of indicators with the kit, or would I be able to use my own?

KK,

You'll have 2 wires from the brake light if you're getting one without integrated signals, you'll have to adapt that wire to the OEM harness. Either via the loom BMW uses, or building off the single plug we work with. You'll then either have to source the BMW plugs used in their loom for each of the turn signals (could cut and re-use what's already there) and then find another source for the license plate light to provide power and ground.

If you work off the main plug we use, you'll have to make your own shared ground for the signals brake light, and license plate light. I personally think that's easier. Honestly either one wouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes on wiring. Obviously we'd like to have all this done for you! But it's a bit of sorting out to do on our end to scale this up for everyone and quality...

Also the piece we're designing would be ideal for the Motogadget Pin, but it's also easy enough to make our solution universal.

Are you wanting the external signals for legality or aesthetic reasons?

Cheers,

Ian

Hi @King Kong,

We will absolutely have a kit way before your next test comes around! Stay tuned as Ian mentioned, we have to figure out the best way to go ahead and make that kit plug and play. We'd rather not make a product where our customers have to sit down and try and figure out what wire goes where and have to deal with cutting/splicing etc... No one wants to mess with that!

Thanks,

Sal

@fussybadger - changing up the design some to make it a bit nicer/easier. Working with BMW of San Francisco to nail down connectors - they don't make it easy to track down these things. Even the dealership is struggling to find good part numbers!

@Bloochdog We are able to find the parts like you mentioned through a BMW parts catalogue, the tricky part is trying to isolate the actual connector housings/pins in regards to grabbing part numbers.
Early on we were able to source part numbers for the pins/seals/connector housings individually and purchased those in bulk for our light strips.

While we can find the repair harness ($37 dollar part each) for the 2 pin connectors required for the turn signals, it's been very difficult to procure the information we need to be able to purchase this in bulk at a reasonable cost. Thankfully I just had a breakthrough by getting in contact directly with the manufacturer of the parts and we'll be placing and order with them shortly.

But of course nothing can be simple! The connector for the brake light is made by a different manufacturer; I'm still working on getting the hardware we need but might be close at this point.

It's been a lot of work but we want to make the kit completely plug and play for you guys. We don't think it would be fair to our customers to have cut, strip, solder or (never!) use a posi-connect or crimp style connector your harnesses. It's not fun for anyone and the cheaper methods just don't hold up to the test of time.

The design is finalized and should be making its way to machining within a week or 2!

Ordered, yesterday!

Sal asked, and I agreed to wait a couple of weeks to get the hole kit, since it´s a delay on the tail license plate light. He offered to ship parts of the kit directly, so it was my decision.

Even if the kit is half as nice as it looks on the net, I think there´s no comparison on the market. Looks like work of art! Sweet!

I´m a happy camper! Be safe you all!

For those considering an order, go for it!

I ordered one a couple months ago, had a long wait, and finally got it installed last weekend (it’s been totally worth the wait). I don't have pics but will try and post some later.

I had a couple problems with install due to the fact that my bike didn't have an OEM wiring setup, I had an aftermarket R&G unit w/ sidearm mounted license plate holder; as such I couldn't follow the instructions posted on this forum step-by-step. However, I emailed Sal and he worked me through it. Totally appreciate that!

The quality of the unit is amazing, holding the machined aluminum I feel like it's a more a quality part than a lot of the OEM parts the bike came with. It feels rock solid.

For what it's worth I had a long struggle with trying to figure out what to do with the rear light assembly. For me, the more parts you bolt onto the tail the worse tie bike looks (totally kills the aesthetics of a beautifully designed bike). I looked at Fancy Bike Thing, Rizoma, and a few others…I did a TON of research. Daedalus had the best in looks and build quality amongst everything I looked at.

Hands down the best money I’ve put into my bike.

I've said this before and I'll continue to say it, this tail tidy is the best thing out there for this bike.
