Is anyone considering installing engine protection bars?
Old fashioned styling like seen at the other thread re customizing lights?
chunky or not?
stainless steel tube?
powder coated black?

guards head

Hi all
Just going to have head guards for mine.
Alloy ..
Engine bars ok on a gs.
Heavy spill the bike would be wrote off anyway.
:(
Is there a consensus on the most beautiful/smart/practical/useful engine bars yet? I am looking for something stylish and good and practical but above all somewhere I can mount my newly ordered LED spotlights and horns! Puig?
I like the Z-Technic bars the best, but not released yet.
The SW-Motech bars are now available, but not the most stylish.

Still waiting . . . :|
How about these? They are made by Hepco Becker.

oh yeah - they're really going to protect your investment, right?
seems protection bars go either very rugged & strong = don't complement 9T's looks, or very cool and fashionable looking = but really only eye candy.
I went with oem cakve cover guards .... the future will merely add character ...:)
I've just ordered a set of black plastic BMW cam cover guards for £40 a side….. They look ok, and will cope with very low speed spills, or a bike just toping over. I don't think anything will save an engine cover/cylinder from damage if going at any decent speed…

I haven't seen any engine guards that would tempt me to fit them, but as glorified lamp or horn mounts perhaps they have a use…. ;)

Came across these (a quick search on google) BMW R NINE T '14- Adventure Bars - Crash Protector Adventure Bars - AB0015BK

I'm still not sold on adding any guards to the interfere with the naked look.
I'm ****-bent on turning my R9T into a cheap and pale imitation of the mighty GS and am desperately looking for engine-bars suitable to mount my Fiamm-cheap-clone horns and dodgy Hong-Kong LED spotlights on. Has anyone here actually installed engine bars on their machine yet (and is prepared to admit it) and can let me know if they are suitable for such a use?

Haha nice one mate! :)

I think you are going to have to be the trail-blazer here and show us how it's done! ;)

I love this carbon look but they are still around $450.00 a pair?
And the worse part of this is Well here is the questions.

How well will it protect ?
and will the the protectors protect and get scratched up doing its job?
and then you do we have to toss away cause they look ugly?

aren't they supposed to be sacrificial and if so then why waiste so much money ?

I bought the carbon fiber wheel hugger and I love the look but not the same protection water and mud okay but against asphault ?

Hola.

I been told by my dealer that the Touratech GS1200 engine protection bars (oil cooled K25 2005-2012) fits the R Nine T. USA part number is 044-5160 (black) and 051-0560 (stainless steel)

It looks like it may or not look nice...... I don't know.

Of course, one needs to go and try it to see fitment and style.

Has someone done it yet? If so, can we see some pictures?

I just ordered some aluminum BMW cam cover guards.
Old thread but since I have relegated the NineT to a runabout/wife trainer/buddy is visiting out of town so lets ride bike, I'm looking for something inexpensive that offers real protection but doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Besides the usual suspects, any other options out there?
I have the Hepco and Becker ones. The grey finish is soft though and if you nick them they start rusting. The wife dropped my bike and it made a tiny mark on them. They look OK and fitted OK too.

Nick
Thanks Nick. Not a lot of H&B distributors in the US.

I did find a SS one from WL. I would have to import it but I like that it is stainless steel and not painted so it won't rust/scratch.

Wunderlich Crash bar R nineT Scrambler

The SW Motech ones are distributed here for about $240 but everyone seems to be out of them right now.
Rizoma crash bars

saw R9T up in charlotte with some bad ass Rizoma crash bars. anyone have any feedback or comments, looking to spend some money.
thanks

also, anyone using the rear rack by Rizoma? looks functional.

Moved your post to a thread where you can pick up information, my friend. :)

Also Rizoma have a reputation for producing high quality stuff, albeit at a price premium. I know that @kebo has Rizoma bars on his bike and seems very happy with them, even if he's doing his best to grind them to oblivion on the race track.... (just kidding Kebo)....
Dave is wrong. I have SW-Motech bars (thanks Captain - have seen them on his 9T first time 2 years ago) and I think they do the job and do not destroy too much look of the bike. When bars from Rizoma has been published I have recognized that they looks exactly the same as SW-Motech, just have in addition nice Alu-sliders.
And this is my current setup. I ordered Rizoma Alu sliders and installed them on SW-Motech bars. They looks good - to my opinion. You can find some pictures on other threats.
But (here BaldyDave is correct) on race track you will loose a few milometers of Alu in every second curve. :)
