Hi everyone, I was hoping someone who knows a bit about engine tuning may be able to help me out...

About 6 months ago I installed a Rapid Bike EVO system into my 2016 BMW R nine T and at the same time I installed the sprint p08 air filter. (I do not have the My Tuning Bike module installed and I am using the OEM 02 sensors, no other engine/intake/exhaust mods apart from the air filter). After the install I noted the fuel consumption significantly increased from an average of ~5.5L/100km (~43 mpg for US friends) to >7L/100km (33mpg). I know it’s a bit subjective but I haven't changed my riding style with most of my riding at a constant 100km/hr (60mph) on highways. I have checked for a fuel leak and I can’t find any evidence of one.

I recently installed the rapid bike software on a friends computer (I only have MacOS myself) and took a screenshot of the auto adaptive values (map 1 values are similar with a column of '15's in the 2% position... +/-15 was the max the auto adaptive was allowed to alter the fuel trims by). Is anyone able to confirm if the values below are normal or if not any idea what may be causing them to be off?

I've asked Rapid Bike Australia for some help too but they are away for the Christmas/New Year break at the moment. If they send me some good info I'll put it up here for educational purposes. In the mean time if anyone has any ideas I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts!

All I can say is, I do have the RB EVO installed, with Arrow headers, stock dual cone akropovic with baffles in.
I have not noticed any change really.
I reset my trip1 after fill up, and the light has not come on any earlier, if it does it's unnoticable really

So the way the Rapid Bike Works at least from what I recall. I had one on my R1200R LC, The system needs to learn how you ride and should adjust eventually to how you ride, you could also contact your dealer or Dimspor and see if they will look at your map and see what changes could be made to help with fueling rather then waiting for the whole process to play out, I think it took my R12R around 100 miles (160km) for everything to settle back in, I was getting high 30's at first then settled in around 42. I had a Full Remus System and the Exhaust Valve was deleted as well so I don't know if the Evo just isn't playing well since your bike still has the stock exhaust, and you only did the air filter.

Edit: Actually come to think of it, If your only mod is a large/more open air filter that actually could be the culprit without the support exhaust? Maybe? I'm not a Motorcycle Tuner just a lowly Marine Engineer by trade so Industrial Sized Diesels are more my area of expertise.

Maybe check this Forum out as well, They're discussing Fuel consumption issues on a KTM, I know it's not a BMW but maybe a start.

I also have a Rapid Bike EVO. It's been a minute since I've looked at my fuel map so I can't help ya there. I am running Akrapovic header, flapper delete and I have pulled the baffles from my mufflers (scrambler), I run the factory air filter and average 35 mpg around town and have gotten as good as 46 mpg behaving with highway riding. My city mpg is way down because I have a very hard time behaving around town. I did do a normal tank this summer while city riding and did get 41 mpg but dang that was NO fun. However to be honest, if I always worried about fuel mileage I would sell my bike, my truck and by a Prius. Also just a FYI, Rapid Bike is an awesome company to deal with, I think Dimsport if I remember correctly, is their parent company name. They go way above and beyond in the customer service department.

Thanks for your comments guys. I've emailed Rapid Bike to see if they have any more info. I'm suspecting something is up though... nobody seems to bet getting such a high fuel consumption from riding at a low constant throttle setting. I've got the RP exhaust on order so id be interested to see what that does to it when it arrives.

I'm interested as I've installed an EVO but won't get to test it until the weather improves and that's a while away yet.

Looking at your map what stands out are these 2% TPS values, if I'm understanding it, these are all max'd out at anywhere above idle to around 3.2k RPMs and look a bit suspect to me, BUT I'M GUESSING

Has the TPS been checked, I'm wondering if it was a little out of whack and be part of the problem?

How many miles since intall and what type of conditions, I'm speculating again but if you did a lot of city riding after the install that might not be helping and as @Reduxalicious pointed out it might just be the EVO hasn't gotten to the point where it's more or less finalized modifying the map

If I end up where you are then my first port of call would be Dimsport they should be able to point you in the right direction.

From my understanding the EVO wouldn't be the wrong thing to install, it may be a little overkill on a stock(ish) bike but it should still work Ok as it's looking at the narrow band lambdas on the bike and adjusting the fuel map to suit.

i had same issue as you ( those 15 numbers in your 2% throttle positions cause your excessive consumption )
i reloaded the base map again and set the auto tune to + 5 and - 5 max and start auto tune setting to 3000 rpm
bike runs great now and i get same fuel consumption as before i installed the evo system
Gilles from rapidbike suggested this to me , he is great to talk to and will definitely sort it for you

Hey westernha, I just got exactly the same response from Gilles. The answer he gave was that the problem was due to a lot of low speed riding / commuting with a low RPM and the RapidBike designed for performance riding and will enrich the mixture at those RPM/throttle settings. I do a fair bit of riding at 80-100km in Perth (because there are speed limits etc. and having the throttle more than 2% will result in me loosing my licence!). Great to know that works!
