Not a big fan of the chrome headers on the R9T.

Anybody here ever used heat wrap on boxer engine headers?

Thermo-Tec : Exhaust Insulating Header Wrap (Graphite Black)

Thought it might look neat with the classic style of the bike and all...
Personally I think I'd stick with chrome!:) I like how the heat engages a spectrum of colours as time passes. I guess however if One wanted something different, a sandblast and a few coats of whatever colour would suffice;)

heat has to go somewhere. SO even if its just a cosmetic wrap the extra insulation is going to introduce extra heat into the headers which can lead to premature failure or cracking.

Not to mention if the wraps get wet they can trap moisture and rust from the inside out...

just my .2
it runs so hot the water would evaporate anyways

and isn't the header stainless?

I have heard of people saying it could cause cracking but it really depends on the quality of the steel.

I've ran wrapped pipes on my headers for my car for many years no problem

I've never heard of wrapping pipes cause cracking. I would hope that wouldn't happen. I would ask the dealer what his opinion is. I would also not commit to buying the wraps until I know if the heat from the exhaust pipe is even a problem.

it accelerates thermal fatigue from the cyclical heating and cooling. All exhausts will eventually suffer from thermal fatigue, how long depends on your type of riding. Wraps just exacerbate fatigue because they introduce more heat more often.

To put it the best way i can, would you like to be wearing a full length coat in the middle of the Nevada desert during the peak of summer?

I don't think the header is stainless. It seems to blue quite nicely and the metal is whitish blue, not yellow.

I have stainless mufflers on my /2 and they turned yellow. After going through three sets of chrome mufflers in about 10 years, I changed to stainless for financial reasons.
The /2 doesn't get hot enough to burn out the water quickly. I don't have that problem on my R90S.
When the headers on the/2 finally died, I bought chrome rather than stainless headers as replacements because I don't like the yellowish color.
