As soon as I heard that the NineT was becoming a reality, I gave my dealer a deposit for the first one to come in.

Out of the 46 bikes I've owned over the past 50+ years, 10 have been BMW's. As bikes became more and more sophisticated, technologically advanced and mostly uncomfortable, I found satisfaction in the retro styling and ease of maintenance of the Triumph Classic line. I currently own an '09 Bonneville SE and an '09 Scrambler. The R1200R got my attention but the ergonomics weren't right for me and my wife didn't like having to pole vault up onto the small pillion seat. So it never made it to my garage.

So I was resigned to the fact that 10 BMW's were enough and I had owned some the best. That was until now. The new retro style NineT with its round headlight, narrow tank and flat seat immediately got my attention. So far the pictures are intriguing but I'll have to wait to see it and throw a leg over.

The little banana seat shown in the spy photos may be a deal breaker as I would want comfortable 2 up capability. Maybe there will be some OEM seat options and most likely there will be aftermarket ones. The other factor will be the ergonomics. The photos and the info seem to indicate a cafe racer style with Ducati Monster ergos. Unfortunately, my old legs can't handle extreme knee bends so again I'll have to wait and see. There are always peg extenders.

My Scrambler is my "go to" solo ride and my Bonnie is for 2 up. With the optional seat on it, my wife finds it very comfortable. My plan is to sell the Bonnie and replace it with the NineT. So the above mentioned concerns may be a deal breaker for me if the NineT is too radical to make comfortable. I hope it isn't as it would be nice to have the last air cooled and probably limited edition BMW. Got my fingers crossed and waiting for the news in the next couple of weeks when it is released.

I gave them my credit card number to use for the $1000 deposit and to give me first dibs on the first NineT they get in. They will charge my card after they get some pictures and actual pricing. And even then, I'm not obligated to buy it. The card is just a show of good faith. I would still have to see it, sit on it and hopefully ride it before making the final decision.

The speculation on pricing is all over the place from $10K to $16K. I'm thinking it will be more around $12K as it will be a stripped down version of an R1200R with no telelever and maybe less electronic stuff. The R1200R is about $14K base price. The NineT is supposed to be competitive with the Bonneville ($10K) and the Ducati Monster ($12K). But who knows ?

The BMW dealer meeting is on Oct. 20th so I'm anxiously waiting to get all the info after that.

welcome aboard meloman, glad to hear you've been so proactive ;)

I'm not sure whats going on with the seats TBH, but in this spy shot it looks like one of them has a cafe style single rider seat, but the one with the soft bag on top looks to be a 2 up seat. I'm only going on the fact that the bottom of the black bag is not lifted above the other bag sitting on the seat.

actually if you look close there seems to be a little break between the seat and where the silver piece of the cafe style rear would be. I'm pretty sure that can be popped off and a small seat is available to go there...

$10,000 - $16,000 is a good guess for the msrp, hard to base it off of anything. And the old price of the R90S was a while back so we are in the water for prices at the moment.
It's an okay price range to go with, we should try to narrow it down to a much smaller price range. I was thinking it would be a bike that starts around $12k

i believe the day of $12,000.00 BMW bikes has long passed :(
this bike will be $15,000.00 without options... i can ALMOST promise you that
Maybe BMW could afford to sell the bike for $2,000.00 less but because the buzz about this bike is so strong, why would they?
They will sell every single bike they make for $15,000.00 US... So there is no reason to charge less

I put down a $500 deposit yesterday, and the sales manager guessed the price would be $14,999...just enough to come in under the price of an R1200R Classic.

It would make me happier if it was priced no higher than the base R1200R.

I believe the price you were quoted is exactly what it will be. However if one puts on one of those exhaust options the price can climb dramatically. However, the base price will be just south of $15,000

Very true. $15k is much more like it.
If anything some dealers might tack on a premium because of what the demand will be like.
If they could eventually tap into the lower price range market with a smaller version of the 9T.

The good news is my dealer never adds any premium to the price of any bike
an example of this is the HP4 Competition
they sold all for for $25,000, exactly the asking price
they could have easily gotten $10,000 more

As an aside I would never ever ever give my money to a dealer who charged a premium on motorcycles because that is a bunch of garbage
I spend a ton of money at the dealership in aftermarket products and they are well aware of that
reputable dealers know they'll make enough money after the sale of a bike to not jerk you around during the sale
I surely hope that dealers won't be charging a premium because I think BMW will make more than enough bikes for the demand there is
I don't believe we know what the demand is at all because once again we were here in this forum with a very skewed population of people who already had a desire for this bike and that's why they found this community

Time will tell
this wonderful place makes it a lot easier to deal with the waiting

Yes I agree with Clearwaterbmw. But then again I bet there are guys like us who are desperately waiting for the NineT to makes it way over to the states. They probably just don't use the computer or interwebs enough ;)

Good place to keep us busy and when the first snow fall hits that is when the real depression begins :(

as I posted elsewhere in the forum, my dealer was able to finally order the bikes just yesterday. No options are available. Every bike is ordered the same way. Anything to be done to your bike from the BMW catalog will be done at the dealer level and not at the factory level. Again, the advantage of this is the bikes will arrive sooner because they can all be made together the same way without any add-ons and all
