The local dealership is tacking on a $1000 "handling" fee. Is anyone else experiencing this? :(

which dealer is it? I am on the list of two SoCal dealers, would be good to know which one to avoid....
Handling?
It take 10 minutes tops to uncrate the bike.
What other handling is there?

That's $6000.00 an hour.

What a rip.
San Diego BMW
sorry to hear, that is rotten.
Lucky for me that is not the one I am dealing with.

Yeah that's really a good thing clearly. With a bike like this you'd expect how they "packaged' it would be much more involved.
$800 or so for delivery at my dealer (even though I pick it up myself ) .... when I protested they said it's for the mechanic uncrating, wiping the grease off, general final assembly if needed, test drive .... you can opt out and ask them to deliver the crate direct to your doorstep which eliminates the dealer's delivery charge/handling fee, but might increase freight costs to your door. The other thing is, you definitely void ALL warranties if you diy from the start ....

... admit it, they had you since your first glance of SoulFuel, go with the flow and don't worry about their creative fees ... you get to ride the beast and enjoy something they can't for at least another year, mwaahahahaha, after that you vote with your wallet and buy other brands riding gear and such .... :p:p

the bikes are worth it, BMW Corporate ain't
SO who is it really that is adding this fee. It must be the dealers I don't think it is BMW corporate at all.

And even if this was a legitimate fee to pay, it shouldn't be quite that much money. A few hundred, $500 at most would seem more reasonable. I'm just so tired of hidden fees. That **** is slimy.
Handling fee??? Like unboxing the bike...labor for the mechanics? The MSRP already has those costs built in. Delivery, I understand, that not in MSRP. Think about it...I think destination for me was $495. That's the cost of a driver, his benefits, a truck, gas for ~250 miles in my case, truck insurance, delivery insurance, etc. It probably took that driver 5 hours to get that bike to my dealer, and destination. And all that cost $495.

$1,000 for 20 mins worth of "work?" Supply and demand, I get it...sounds like this dealer's demand should dry up. Thank you for motorcycle message boards.
So let's try and understand the situation are you saying you are being asked to pay over and above your original delivery fee which everyone pays for delivery from factory to dealership
If you've paid a deposit and agreed a final price with an invoice and then your dealership are asking for an over delivery charge then yes your being robbed ,but then if it's part of your delivery charge then no it's the price you pay for shipping to the US.
I agreed my full price all in at deposit time to make sure that's all I would pay no more no less ;)
My delivery charge from Germany to UK was £300
My total price with heated grips fitted ,road tax, first service free ,delivered to my door for £11,640-00
If I've misinterpreted this post excuse my ignorance ;)
I have purchased numerous new cars and bikes over the years in Qld and WA and a Dealer Delivery cost was always included in the drive/ride away price. The cost has included but not limited to such items and preparation to ensure the vehicle is in clean and fully assembled, road registration, affixing number plate etc. Vehicle advertisements that I notice tend to advertise the final drive away price as inclusive of Dealer delivery costs - so the cost is not new to us here. When purchasing a new vehicle I always ask for the drive/ride away cost inclusive of all charges, as some Toss*r sales reps will give you a price excluding some of the charges such as road registration to have you believe the price is cheaper than what it actually is. I also request the final price to be inclusive of 12 months registration, as if you do not request this, some of the Toss*r sales reps will only include 6 months road registration without informing you as such. I always request a written quotation showing all costs itemised.

Wow, what a huge rip off. Wouldn't it be cool if they had a factory pick up option, similar to Porsche or what GM does with the Corvettes? Saving a grand on this ridiculous fee could go toward helping defray my travel costs.
i would look for another dealership. only fee here is $495US freight.

(plus sales tax and registration, but the dealer does not collect that)
I noticed my dealer (may be the same as originally mentioned in this thread) had a price of $14,900 + $495, plus $900 for a total of about $16,300. This is before tax, reg., etc. (numbers approximate from memory.) Unfortunately the "find another dealer" option doesn't work when demand > supply. Is San Diego the only area charging the extra amount?
that's a bummer. i have 4 or 5 dealerships within 100 miles of me and a couple of them have bikes.
Not necessary

PM me. I'm at a dealer in SoCal. No extra fee.
It's amazing how does different dealers have different charges in the US and they get away with it. I don't think it happens in Europe. There is the fixed delivery charge which is the same amount within a country and that's it.
yes, same dealer and the only one, to my knowledge, that is doing this
Obviously, a dealer doing one of these "hot item" charges, as they know they can charge it and get away with it, unless Corporate prevents it. I mentioned in another post, my dealer was offered $1000 over msrp for the bike thats mine, but they told him no. I've seen this happen with cars, especially a hot new one, where there is limited availability. IMHO, the dealers that stick to the MSRP deserve our respect, as well as business.
My out the door price is 16.9k, and that includes $495 handling. BMW car dealerships often add on a premium "market adjustment" when demand is high, but I've never heard of that with bikes.
