... I'd like to know how tall Ola Stenegard is .... watching him wheeling the 9T out of the shed, well - if he's about 5'10 ... would make it easier to work out whether I will look like a gorilla clamping down on a grindstone, or if me riding the 9T is gonna be a more easy-on-the-eye image for Mr & Mrs Public ;)

There doesn't seem to be an email address for him, nor contact info for anyone at BMW motorrad design ..... these things are important y'know! Ha!

Have you checked out Motorcycle Ergonomics. Helps to a degree but it depends how much extra gear you tend to wear as well I guess..

How tall are you? I am 5'9", and can take a pic over the next couple of days for you. I have a short inseam (29") and can ALMOST flat foot on the bike, with dress loafers on. With boots, should be an easy flat foot. My son is 6'4", 280 lbs and he looks great on the bike. This bike is compact, yes, but against what others here say, I don't see it as small. Its got some beef to it. It just doesn't have all the plastic surrounds, and extended wheel bases. And, its NOT a GS!

Well rkevwill covered that ground.

5'9" - 6'4" pretty much sums up a LARGE part of the male motorcycling population & 280lb = 127kgs. He's a big lad.

hopefully the NineT will be readily available at alll dealers so you can just sit on one and get a feel for it for yourself

as that is the best way to figure if you fit well on the bikes size and design.

I had the opportunity yesterday to sit and see the first time the 9T (I'm 6.3 and about 290 lbs), and I will have to cancel my order - way to little for me - I feel like KingKong on a bicycle ........but totally like the looks and the design of the bike ! Absolutely gorgeous .
My bike arrived at the port in NJ a few days ago and should arrive in FL next week.

You felt that the nineT was too small and you are 6'3"? I'm surprised by that. You are on the tall side but still within a the norms of what the bike should accommodate.

Was it so bad that you won't buy the nineT?

Seat height in particular

I know a few people have given their heights and on a broad reading the R nineT could suit riders between 5'9" - 6'3" it's interesting to see what other bikes have a comparable seat height of 785mm (=30.9 inches) of the R nineT.

Seat height alone will not determine comfort but it is a guide, until we mere mortals can throw a leg over and see for ourselves what fits.

My quick research tells me that a 2012 survey identified to following heights:
BMW
G650GS – 30.7
R1200GS low seat, low suspension – 31.1
F800R low seat – 30.5
K1300S low seat – 31.1
R1200RT low seat, low suspension – 29.5

Ducati
Diavel – 30.3

KTM all are taller

Triumph
Bonneville – 29.1
Street Triple – 31.5

Yamaha
Super Sport FZ6R – 30.9

My opinion (for the little it is worth). Some of these bikes have tons of fairings and plastic, which makes them look larger. Then, there's the GS models that are definitely taller, for their specific purpose. I think a lot of this is an optical illusion. The NineT tank is lower, and that over ramped up seat on some of the bikes, makes them look taller. Is there a reason you want the rear seat passenger sitting 6 inches taller than the rider? Educate me guys.

1) So the passenger can see more than the back of your head (although if they are shorter than you, that's still all they are going to see looking forward)

2) To give the driver something to mash his/her butt up against to take some of the strain off the lower back.

3) To keep the driver from flying off the back of the bike when hitting the throttle a too aggressively (trust me...after I made the mistake of beautifying the bench seat of my R80 with Armor All one time, it would have been much better if there was an elevated rear seat behind me)
