Picked her up this morning from the excellent Max BMW and took her out for her first 100 miles. Incredible bike. Tight, responsive, plush. Everything about it just feels right. The fit and finish is impeccable. And for all the grousing about the size of the rear break light, I think is suits the bike very well in person. And coming from the NYC metropolitan area, having some extra surface area for signals is not all bad.
I'll also point out, in relation to all of the discussion about modding the bike, that when you're on it, you know she's gorgeous, but you're not looking at her! You're experiencing a really exceptional, very well thought out riding experience. If you want to stare at it in the driveway, that's great. But I think BMW got it about 98% right and I won't be changing much. I did order the aluminum hump and am having that shipped home. That's the one look (plus the functionality of having a tiny storage compartment) that works best for me. Heated grips are on their way too.
The ergonomics are great for a guy my size. I am big and broad: 5' 11", 230 lbs at the moment (need to deal with that before summer!). I have short legs (30" inseam) and arms, and the bike fits me very well. I can be flat footed at a stop, and the reach of the handlebars is excellent. Whether I am straight backed, or slightly hunched, I sit in the bike really well. The stock seat is very comfortable to me. No issues at all with it. It is an amazingly responsive bike: smooth on the throttle and clutch, very touch sensitive.
So, while it is a pleasure to gaze and wonder at, it really comes to life on the road, and does a great job of bringing a smile to the face. She's already had her pipes a bit lightly blued, had her first bath to get most of the salt off, and is asleep in the garage, next to the Bonneville that will soon be listed for sale!
