Hilltop Motorcycles ECU Remap?

61154 Views 164 Replies 36 Participants Last post by  DomKiwi
I've just been on the phone to Geoff at Hilltop Motorcycles in Leicestershire with regard to having a remap done on my R9 that is currently running a Boosterplug, Akra decat headers, deflap link pipe, and an Akra low silencer without a baffle.

Two options were discussed, a full rolling road tune, or a simple remap/reflash of just my ECU to upload a suitably matched map they already have. Considering the distance, not to mention the weather at the moment, posting just my ECU up would be a whole lot more convenient than a 3.5hr ride in the freezing cold, so I'm undecided as to what to do.

Surprisingly, there's not much of a price difference between the two options, and Geoff reckons that as he's already done loads of R9's already, one of their 'off the shelf' matched remaps will be about 98% as good as having an individual rolling road set-up session on my specific bike.

So what I wish to ask is........has anyone on here sent their ECU (only) up to Hilltop for a remap, what did you think/how did it perform afterwards, and in hindsight do you wish you went for the full rolling road set-up?

Hey guys would like to hear your experiences with Hilltop, after certain mods took my bike there last Friday to smooth out flat spots and guy in there could not remap it. He said someone has tinkered ( remaped) with it and his software could not access ecu unit as it was not how it came out of bmw.

I know for a fact bike has been untouched and it is BMW ex demo.

Bike is 2018 model and it seems to me that hilltop may not have the right equipment to flash it I may be wrong but everything points that way.
Please share your experiences

Thanks (y)
Yeah thanks for the link, I can see that everyone is happy just would be interested to see if anyone has euro 4 done at Geof's place. He seems very nice guy and I was gutted to leave his garage without a remap. He mentioned he needs to get hold of original bmw map upload it and then he can work his magic.. apparently will take him 2 weeks just to get that and then again he was very vague about it all and asked me to call him Monday.
Thanks @BaldyDave it makes sense. And I must have read HT thread 3 times now and still as confused as a hungry baby in a nudie bar ;) will sleep on it
Thanks for your input guys this makes things a bit clearer especially knowing .euro 4 bikes are pain in the back side by the sounds 😂 My bike is ex Demo, Press. Bmw tweak those in order to show that bike performs to what it says on paper ( so I have been told ) it does sound a bit far fetched but you never know.

Anyhow
I have booked her in to David Wood Racing (Buckingham) for the ecu remap. They run it on the dyno first, then work their magic, dyno again and then let you have a go and see if you like it prior to paying. Bit dearer than HT but from what I can gather it is a proper remap as they specialise in this field and also suspension. My appointment not till 8th of September I will be updating you guys as soon as I know more 💪💪

Just be sure to do your own independent testing (at another location beforehand and post runs again after). Sounds like your local so you could always just request a refund in the event you weren’t pleased. Unfortunately on my 2017 (different ECU architecture from 2014-2016 models) his “Magic” was more like “Snake Oil”.....
**But maybe my USA bike was the anomaly, good luck on your decision.
Did you have yours done by HT too?
I'm really looking forward to seeing the results, as I'm sure many others are as well.
A point worth remembering is whoever is tuning/mapping your bike that ultimate HP gains are not usually the sole aim.
Smoother acceleration by not running lean was the big benefit I found with my BrenTuning remap.

(BTW - I know the roads around that area very well. If you plan on riding over - try to take the A413 from Aylesbury up to Buckingham, you won't be disappointed)
I have no silly expectations in terms of HP gain, just hoping smoother acceleration as it is bit twitchy especially after removing flapper valve and bit more torque would be nice! Counting days tbh!

Yes a413 has got some nice twisties 👍👍
Where abouts are you from?
YES.......mail in option (USA to UK) then back to me. This was in 2017.
