Decided to return to 9T ownership after a few years break riding a Ducati SF V4. Couldnt get the boxer out of my blood so just bought a new black 9T 2 weeks ago. Very happy with the bike compared to the Duke but snowy weather has put time to riding for the moment so focussing on getting the bike sorted and sounding more like it should.

I know AND IT SUX ! I own tractors ..and other than an enormous amount of torque …they have nothing in common …. 🤷🏼♂️ BlitzYou'd be surprised how often I've seen the word 'agricultural' being used when reading about the R Nine T! Just search for it in this forum. 124 hits. 😆
That clunky transmission is one of the reasons the Beemer became known as “bullet” proof …… it’s not built to race or quick shift but it’s amazing just how versatile it can adapt to either … once it’s broken in well around 50K or so it’s like butter …. I’ve met a half dozen ol-farts like me who have ridden 1/4 million miles and say with out hesitation they could go 1/4 million more. If you’re looking for a very quick bike that shifts so well you don’t even know it happened get an electric because it doesn’t happen. On Blitz once I’m in second gear I never touch the clutch anyway …except when stopped. The trans is a bit agricultural I will admit but there’s never a question about if you are in gear …and neutral actually has it’s own spot, not just some magic space between gears. …. If you lift the selector and it clunks, you’re IN … and that’s upshift and downshift. For racing and quick shifting not so much .. but for dependability issues, no chain, no back lash, no noise, NO CHAIN LUBE “EVER” ! You can’t beat the Beemer Buddy ! It’s always been about getting the correct bike for the ride you trying to take …… all these iterations of the Air-Oil cooled boxer at 1100cc are attempts to capitalize in every direction possible and the focus is indestructible dependability with a Classic design that is undeniably beautiful to all who gaze as you ride by …………… StayUpOn2 Mate …………….. BlitzOk, I retract the offending agricultural gearbox description, maybe I should have described it is as “even the gearbox captures the essence of bygone motorcycling”. The Duke had a tight gearbox and up/down quick shifter which seems like a great idea on paper. In reality it was terrible, it ran a 22mm-24mm chain slack which is super tight and every time you used the quick shifter it put another slack spot in the chain so had to adjust every 100 miles max and avoid said shifting. Its literally impossible to find neutral on the Duke gearbox if at a standstill, you can only do it whilst rolling along then it snicks in fine. I love the fact that the 9T has no problems with the basics like this and the shaft drive is largely stretch and maintenance free.

She is quite a machine but I feel there is more to it than meets the eye. Call me a romantic… as they say, if the shoe fits…etc. ….she (Blitz) inspires me in ways that other humans can not. In my world she’s a genuine Time Machine ………….. I am grateful to have encountered such a spirited extension of my own ego. Yeah the tires maybe Gene …but I’m in love with that red racing faring on that “TT” model McCormick ….You should have kept the tires form the red one and modded the bike to take them.
