Initially I was thinking the NineT was going to be a modders paradise, but after hanging out here for a while and now seeing some of the initial reactions I think that stance is changing.

It seems to me that most of the NineT mods are going to be based on removing or cleaning up the bike as opposed to adding to it...

I know personally the only thing I will be looking to add when mine is eventually purchased is that Wunderlich Bikini Screen.

So how much modding is in the cards?

I'll probably add the Wunderlich screen, unless something better shows up (so that means I won't be doing it right away).

My main modification will be at the rear. I intend to devise some type of luggage rack that will replace the rear seat and provide attachment for hard cases of some sort.

The question right now is whether I should build off of the existing passenger seat frame, or build an entirely new subframe that can be switched out as needed.

I'm also trying to determine if I can mount more of a fender lower down to the wheel(think extended hugger), and build the luggage rack above that at or slightly below the height of the rider seat.

I've got a couple things in mind.

New tail lights
riser clip-ons
handlebar end mirrors
going to splurge and buy the overpriced carbon engine cover
Some carbon wheels

as for exhaust, I'm ok with the short akra option, but the required removal of the rear pegs makes it a deal breaker for me. I'll be trying for a solution like they have on the ducati sport classics, either like the wasp exhaust like this:

Or something more easy to fabricate like this,

For the carbon wheels, it's either alpina carbon pro matrix (matches the look)

or some BST carbon 5 spokes, which are phenomenal for performance.

The BST's will probably save a good 5-10KG alone. So it's a question of style or functionality.

A couple years down the road, I may also look in to a repaint to my "official" colors of ferrari grigio silverstone, bmw mystic blue, and bmw imola red. Along with that a nice new leather seat.

Wunderlich screen, hugger, and I hope to modify a Givi mounting bracket to mate up to the rear. I have the bracket and bags from another bike and hope to remove the rear seat and incorporate the mounts with a platform suitable for a bungee net setup.

It really is a beautiful-looking bike, which would be spoiled by add-ons. Surely, it's the minimalism of it that is the appeal. I don't have one, but I'd like one and probably will in a couple of years. I did over 90000 miles on an R1100GS, and aside from a broken gearbox at 52000, it was perfect. My favourite bike so far probably, although I love my current B-King. If I had the R Nine I'd just use Krieger luggage cubes attached to the back seat and a Krieger pack attached to the tank via a tank bra. Since getting rid of the GS I've gone off hard luggage. So expensive and heavy.

Initially before i rode the bike, i wanted to turn it into a cafe racer. Clip ons/clubman bars, bar end mirrors, seat hump & getting rid of the rear pegs. But after riding it and deciding it will be my main commuter i will keep the cockpit intact, The ergos really work for everyday riding. So it'll be just bar end mirrors, tail tidy, led indicators and some carbon bits for me. I might still do the cafe racer look in the future but thats 2-3 years down the road.

The Kriega idea really appeals to me. It looks like it would simplify building the pannier rack. The packs that attach look good, too. Probably better than any of the hard cases I've been looking at, and with more capacity flexibility. And the gas can attachment is brilliant (especially after I found myself getting low on fuel this past Sunday and remembering that the manual said I would have about 30 miles left once the light came on).

Thanks!:)

A pleasure. I am about to buy a selection of them for my B-King, and if I end up with the R Nine, I'll use them on it. My set-up is going to be two 20L cases on the back seat, one attached to the top of the other. On either side a 10L pack and a 5L on the tank.

This system is so versatile. Going shopping. Then use one 20L tailpack. Just an afternoon ride around in good weather, simply use the 5l on the tank. Et cetera.

One more thing, the quality is superb, with a 10 year guarantee. It's waterproof. And, er...it's British!

I have issues with the rear "frame" behind the passenger seat. I'll be looking for something to replace that, with a new tail light eventually. (along with a rear hugger, as the Wunderlich looks pretty much perfect). It would be nice to have some kind of strap on luggage solution back there (like for my briefcase). I may just have to have one of my fabricator buddies come up with something.

Bar end mirrors, and depending on the ergonomics, I might change the handlebar to slightly streetfighter style.
If I can get a full rear fender/mudguard then will go for a tail-tidy, otherwise stock will have to do.

Definites:
Scrambler (i.e. $1700 in pipes, $500 for hump)
Tail tidy

Probables:
bar end mirrors
carbon fiber front fender, engine cover
head covers

No shield for me - IT'S A NAKED BIKE, after all.
You hit the nail on the head man that's all the bike needs, but will be very tempted with Alpina carbon matrix wheels when they become available, I have email them in Italy to see if they plan to, time will tell!

On my Thruxton I had a Clubman handlebar from LSL.
That one can not be used on the Nine-T because of his standard size.
I hope LSL will make that same shape/design for the Nine-T. It would be the perfect match.
It gives a position in between the dragbar and the clip-ons.

For those of you who are considering not to add the rear hump, I would suggest that you reconsider. I just put put it on and it looks absolutely stunning! Pictures don't do it justice. The raw brushed aluminum finish on that hump as well as the proportions (short and stubby) in relation to the bike are perfect! Even the ugly tail and light do not look as bad anymore (still modifying that this weekend)
