The ktm rally peg as shown in the photo does not mount up to the BMW (I had previously measured at a dealership and known this) so my plan is to get the stock bmw mount remade from billet and CNCed with spacing correct for the ktm footpeg

I also clipped the wheel speed sensor for the rear wheel. I called a local bmw dealer and the speedometer runs off the front wheel only and I’m not running abs so I clipped it.

my newest idea is to run 12 inches of travel instead of 10.5 without extending the cable which would have required cutting it anyway (at a different location obviously) it seemed pointless to keep it.

The rest of the hardware to mount my gps and handlebars came in the mail today. I mounted it up and was trying to decide where to mount the stock speedometer. I think I will mount it under the gps like the crude drawing. Not fully decided. I will get a road book and ICOs above the GPS at some point and had thought to put the speedometer at the very bottom of a custom rally tower (above the gps and bellow the road book) as demonstrated in the other crude drawing.

I ordered the mount to put a road book holder on the bike (an f2r RB850). Depending how that sits will determine where I place the stock speedometer. I probably will get the road book around late December or beginning of January. After that I will need to buy the switch and power and whatever else is required to make it functional. I’m liking the Lyndon Poskitt switchgear; so I will probably go with that. I think that will finish the front end (I will have to see how it looks) then the next area of focus will be buying a bead roller a metal brake and shear and build an air-box to house an air filter and pre filter (2 identical uni filters) 6”L 2.5”id. After that / in conjunction with I will need to sort mounting locations for various wires and stock ancillaries.

I still need to lengthen the swing arm and have a tentative idea to “cheat” the geometry without fully re-engineering the whole swing arm. I’m not sure that will work to give the 12” of travel? 🤷🏼‍♂️

then (will take a lot of money) the suspension which the front forks were quoted at $5450 and the rear probably is in the ballpark of $2000-$3500 (estimated).

in total I estimate it will run around $15k more... so it will take some time to fully finish it. Also need to strip it down for paint when everything has been put together and tested to make sure it all works and do the 6,000 mile service.

There was an error when I ordered last week. I did some work to help Matt (the owner of RMS rally moto shop) with his website and troubleshoot some issues. I typically cover pricing when I post to protect the businesses because I’m usually getting special pricing that I don’t want them to be in an uncomfortable situation where someone says I saw you sold it at this price I want the same pricing. Matt also said he will throw some “rally goodies” in with the order as a thank you for my help. I ended up ordering more parts. I’ll post when I get them and install them.

Maybe. I don’t think the bike will be competitive although I personally am competitive. I will need to relearn the bike when I complete it and go from there. I’d like to look into some races locally before going anywhere far.

I didn’t install the power box or switches yet. But received those along with the road book holder and other parts.

Pictures of the install and tentative mounting location for the speedometer.

The ram mounts are for a Garmin Overlander GPS I bought my wife to mount in a 4Runner I’m fixing up for her. I spent a few grand working on that the last few months instead of the R9T Pure.

The rest are for or related to the bike.

I will post installation photos but everything will just be in place without adding fluids etc for obvious reasons.

I hopefully will buy the forks next year. then maybe I can use a threaded rod to adjust to max compression standard ride height and full droop to see the driveline angles for cutting the swingarm and driveshaft as previously mentioned. I’m unclear on something that appears so undocumented.

i also don’t know which is the chicken or egg as far as how to progress. I thought of making an airbox and battery tray but that could get in the way of however the shock may end up mounted. I haven’t know whether to fix the swingarm and rear suspension first or get the forks built for a
setup that might not work. It’s an expensive gamble I feel like.

Took the ktm rally foot pegs and mounting hardware to dr. John’s to have him make custom foot peg mounts for it based on the bmw factory parts. Will modify the rear brake sensor mounting but overall should come out similar but with different angle for the pegs than factory.

also paid for the fork buildout on the wp pro forks 10.6” travel with dlc coating on lowers. Will be sent to me on the 7th from solid performance ktm in Pennsylvania. They gave me special pricing so I bleeped out the cost. (Still very expensive)

They have been out of stock on revzilla for months on an air filter I need (I only have one) (bought the last one months ago and they never got new ones) will need to put the bike together and do a 6,000 miles service but I’m getting closer to having the bulk of things done. Need to fab a battery tray and air box to house the filters and figure out an external reservoir shock and drive shaft angles. (The only real headache left will be the rear suspension) then everything is small tidbits to buy and install. Will need testing and then take it all back apart for painting. Then rebuild again.

Thank you!

just got off the phone with Dr. John’s and he sent over these pictures of the part and the steel he will be cutting with the bmw mount as the template. 3/8” in the photo. he might do 1/4” he said.

solid performance KTM in Pennsylvania is working on the forks this week and shipping Friday they said this afternoon.

Collected the assemblies at dr. John’s. I took them home to set the angle to weld them in place tomorrow. I took many pictures of different angles. They forget to give me back the brake lever washer and bolt so I used the screwdriver to give an estimation of the brake lever placement. (I plan to eventually make that to my specs as well.) I will also be receiving my WP Pro cone valve forks tomorrow. (I’ll post those tomorrow.) probably cost around $1,000 just for the swap to these new pegs and mounts. 😱 what a beautiful difference it makes. It puts me in a wonderful position for standing now whereas I was in a weird position before. Next month I will buy the brake sensor that got damaged which is around $40 but hopefully will get it wholesale at the dealership. As things progress I will update.
