I’m getting the driveshaft lengthened. I finally found a shop that would do it. 3” extension. I will post photos when available. It’s at the shop currently. I’ve been working on other projects.

Photos of a bike I’ll be finishing first in the same vein as the BMW. The paint style I plan to do on the BMW as mentioned earlier in the thread. I had planned blue lace back then but decided on green. I think I will also leave the frame black on the BMW versus BRG.

I lost interest in it. I took a lot of parts off of it for the bike I’m currently working on. All I really need for the bmw to finish is the drive shaft and swing arm lengthened and to build an air box enclosure valve check / adjustment and new fluids. It is pretty much ready to go. I had searched around and called all sorts of drive shaft shops around the United States as well as some BMW specific places but no one wanted to touch it. I felt stupid having spent a ton of money to modify it and the time disassembling it etc so I just left it sitting. I didn’t want to compromise with the hp2 swingarm and drive shaft that is only 1.2” longer if I remember correctly. And almost maxed out according to touratech for the u-joint angles. Hp2 is 9.8 inches of travel if I remember versus me wanting 10.6 inches to match the front. It was important to build it the way I originally envisioned and not settle or give up.

I forget if I ever wrote this on the thread but I’d like to eventually make it a 450cc as well. Maybe a rear end and or trans re gear….. but that’s more tentative in the mist of possibilities versus I WANT it.

I’m not sure yet for completed seat height. It should have around 30% sag in suspension; so the bike shouldn’t be as crazy as it seems in the photo. The photo is with full droop no weight on the suspension. Think of the photos of trucks on a lift with the suspension full droop. It will look crazy for a photo. However, when the truck is on the ground resting on the tires it has a much more normal stance.

When you had the fork clamps made, did you mess with rake and trail at all or leave it at factory specs? I'm picturing the front wheel way out there when you consider adding more or less 6 inches to the ride height?

I didn’t make the triple trees. The entire front end is from a 2020 KTM 790 Adventure R Rally.

I spent many hours looking at the specs of the 2 motorcycles stock and calculating and comparing what I estimated prior to starting on it but I don’t remember the details anymore. If looking at both pictures side by side however they appear similar. (Especially if you visualize the bike resting with the suspension compressed slightly to match the KTM) I had also used the HP2 figures for reference since that is similar and uses 10.6” travel in the front. (Hp2 photo included for comparison to R9T pure and KTM)

For reference:

2020 KTM Adventure R Rally:
Rake, trail26.3 degrees, 4.35 inches
2017 BMW RnineT Pure:
Rake/Trail26.4 deg/4.1 in

my trail would have been slightly different given it was the low suspension version originally… the rake didn’t need to be adjusted in my opinion given they are virtually identical… but that wouldn’t have been done via the triple trees. That would have required cutting the headstock off for repositioning. If it doesn’t track correctly when it’s assembled I’ll deal with it then but as stated I think it should be fine. Also according to a different frame shop I looked at last night… trail can be up to 6 inches before needing adjustment for anyone’s reference as far as their own builds.

I’ll post rake and trail figures when I have them for people if they ever wanted to recreate this setup.
