Hi Everyone,

I was at the DC motorcycle show this past weekend.

The people in the BMW booth told me that:

1. The R Nine T would most likely become a regular model (he said maybe 3 model years).

2. The high mount exhaust may not be available in the US b/c the charcoal canister is in the way.

Not sure how much of this will turn out to be true... But i wanted to pass along what i was told.

How did the bike strike you when you got a look at it (or are you one the fortunate few who have been able to check ione out before)?
I actually liked it quite a bit. To me it seemed much larger than it looks in the pictures. Not in a bad way at all, i think it's well proportioned.

I'm used to a different type of motorcycle, however when i sat on it, it seemed well balanced and i liked the riding position.

Fit and finish seems excellent.

Basically, i'm really looking forward to test riding it!

For reference, i'm coming from a Ducati 1098, Monster 1100, and currently a Pikes Peak Multistrada. This bike will be a definite change of pace...

Didn't get a chance to sit on the NineT just yet but it does look like a comfortable riding position.

It doesn't bother me whether it will be a 3 year production model or not as long as I get my hands on one during round 1!

and yet again the charoal canister has caused a problem. You know, I have heard nothing but bad things about them....

Thanks for the report Cross9T ;)

The charcoal canister can be easily removed (apparently all US models are built to the highest emission standards - California). I removed mine off my 2012 DOHC R1200R as did many others. Check out the R1200R forum for details - no issues with how the engine or emissions systems function. It simply temporarily stores unburnt fuel until it can get sucked back into the combustion cycle.

Yup, they are easy to remove. We'll just have to see if we can get the high-mount mid-pipe here in the US...
