Hi there, has anyone installed the LeMotographe machined pillion brackets and footpegs? I am looking for an option without putting on the rear subframe each time. The LeMotographe brackets look understated and have an exhaust mounting option.
Thanks

Anyone fitted the Le Motographe rear machined tail unit

So after going down the full modification route of my 2019 R9T Classic and becoming a dedicated single seat machine, I now find myself getting requests from my daughter to be a passenger (I think the R9T cool factor has got to her). I could put on the sub-frame and original seat from time to time but that sounds like a PITA for those spare of the moment rides.

So I find myself looking for a solution that doesn't deter too much from the look of my Silver Racer. The only suitable one I have found so far is from Le Motographe (links below). Their machined tail unit with integrated lights and separate passenger foot peg brackets with low exhaust mount point seems to be on point albeit up there on price .

Has anyone mounted this kit from Le Motographe or have seen another similar type solution that doesn't require mounting the rear sub-frame?

Thanks JovialR, your bike is definitely looking trick 👌

A couple of questions if that's OK.
  • I am in Australia so we need to have amber turn signals and red brake light....do you have this or did you have the option for amber turn signals with your integrated light setup?
  • Is that the Pillion Leather+Alcantara option? Did you get your standard seat recovered in the same materials?
  • The other requirement we have in Oz is to have our licence plate illuminated and located under rear guard and above the rear wheel, we can get pulled up for a side mount licence plate. This might be a question for Jerome but does it look possible with the material used to neatly put on a bracket like below for similar setup with the machined tail from LeMotographe? Maybe I can work with him to get something customised.

1.Turn signals are amber and brake light is red - I’ll send a video when back in NYC
2. Yes it’s the alcantara. The rear pillion is one piece. The front part of the seat is a cover that requires you removing the existing leather and stapling the new one on
3. Jerome picked out the bracket for me (and it’s illuminated) but it isn’t built by his company. I’d ask him- I’m sure he’s got a solution for you

Let me know if you want any other pictures or videos and tell him Stephen says hello!

My 2021 Pure, too, is without passenger subframe and pegs so this looks like a great solution. However, would the tail tidy piece alone sufficiently support a passenger without the support of the passenger subframe?

Additionally, would it be safer to have a frame or flap to the inside of the peg mounts to act as a guard to prevent passenger shoes to accidentally rub against the spinning rear wheel?

@ahimanic I must apologise for rushing my above reply without reading into what you were asking.
My answer was directed at the OEM passenger under-seat frame, I didn't follow through that the Le Motographe replaces this.
Based on how theirs has been engineered, it would be prudent to ask them directly for the passenger weight safety limit.
As they are also providing relocated footpegs, this is something they may have developed.
Let us know what you find out.

Seeing as how this doesn't bolt to anything other than the existing under seat main frame, I can't see that it supports any more than the factory rear frame without the passenger subframe. This doesn't magically make the main frame more stable

I tend to agree. However, on my 2021 Pure the passenger seat section is actually welded on to the main frame instead of bolted on. That's like one piece and gotta be pretty strong. But I know a lot of frames out there are bolted on instead.

Not related to the LeMotographe tail, but only the Classics have the removable rear section. All submodels (Pure, Scrambler, Racer, UGS) have the single piece rear section that is welded. BMW still rates the load capacity as 50lbs with either the bolt on rear section or the welded.

Great info, thanks!

It's so confusing, I've looked at the dealer website's diagrams and none of the sub models shown 1-piece frame so I was pretty surprised to discover it on my bike.

The 50lbs load capacity is nonsense… A pillion passenger easily weighs 3 times that! So if the load capacity of the rear frame is only 25kg, how on earth can you ride with a pillion??

the 50lb rating is for the rear frame when the PASSENGER SUBFRAME isn’t installed. You aren’t supposed to ride with a pillion without it installed and that is exactly the point we are making. The passenger subframe braces the area under the pillion seat against the lower frame behind the rider pegs, this is where the majority of the strength comes from. The tail modification in this thread makes it impossible to install the subframe, we are advising not to have a passenger with this mod.

It holds a passenger easily. 140 lbs hasnt been a problem. I did a short ride on it myself at 180 and not a problem
180 ? OneHundredEightyWhat … NOT mph ? I hope that 140lb passenger isn’t on there when you hit a good dip in the road at 180whatevers …. I wonder what it would be like to hit the top of that spinning rear tire while it’s turning at 180whatever’s worth. Ouch ! ………………….Blitz

LOL! to clarify: I weigh 180 LBS and have ridden on back around the block once or twice for just a few minutes. Wouldn’t recommend as it’s a very tiny seat. But for a small passenger it’s no problem

I did a full build with them. It’s beautiful and Jerome is amazing. Happy to answer any questions you may have

Hi JR. I don’t mean to hijack this thread but I don’t seem to be able to message you directly, I’m guessing because I’m a new member.

I’ve been interested in this rear end from Lemotographe since laying eyes on it. To my eyes the shape and proportions are just about perfect for what I’m going for in my own 9T; certainly compared with any other seat or seat/cover on the market. I wanted to ask for your thoughts on the quality, though. In this thread there’s been some discussion about its ability to bear weight, that’s not really an issue for me. Probably more important for me than the aesthetic advantage the Lemotographe rear has over, say, Wunderlich’s Aktivkomfort seat, is the stitching symmetry and overall attention to detail and uniformity as well as how it all holds up over time in terms of holding shape.

I noticed in the second picture you posted above that the leather on the side of the rear seat section looks loose and wrinkled, probably from use. Can you share some thoughts about that for me and anyone else possibly looking at this part? The company seems to offer some really nice parts but there’s next to no discussion online from people who have purchased them or really even paying attention.

Many thanks in advance!
