According to the article, BMW tasked Urban Motor with creating the first custom R nineT to highlight the motorcycle’s potential. The result is what Urban Motor calls the “Track Grinder”. I'm iffy on this particular execution but not on the potential fun we will all have.

I agree. I would have preferred BMW demonstrate what can be achieved taking advantage of the modular frame design and wiring harness using a selection of quality after market parts. Instead, these guys did a complete rebuild of the bike - even the tank - the NineT's distinguishing trait among the R series family of bikes - and its kind of hideous in the pictures.

I feel like this was rushed because they wanted to be the first ones to have an after market tuned nineT. I was hoping to get some inspiration from custom nineTs that I find online, but this first one is not going to provide much inspiration. Is anyone else disappointed with this being the first custom nineT? I was expecting so much more.

Rushed!!! Hardly! Selected custom houses have had base models for a while to play with.
This particular one has a modified tank, rear subframe, seat and cowl amongst plenty of other modifications that take TIME and planning.
Of course you are entitled to your opinion, personally I like this bike however impractical it is, and who knows whether BMW allowed a German custom house to release a version first, but I think the style is continuous throughout the build and hardly skimped on.
Rushed? No.

Interesting build for sure, certainly not my style. Id love to see it a few little changes like dual 6inch headlights (like on the honda ruckus) and a dirt tracker style rear cowl. Ive got some ideas for my bike now!

A series of roadster and boulevard cruiser screens and tour screens, along with custom bars and tripple tree extensions and set backs would be a first step. Hope Sargent steps up with a cusom seat for this one. Corbin already has and it looks darn good. alexford
