Hello folks and greetings from Germany,

i would like to show you my 1300ccm Big Bore Pure Café Racer from 2017. It's gonna be a longer post, sorry!

It started like this about a year ago when i sold my 1250GS as it bored me to death and bought this used Pure that had some minor mods installed like a short rear and a relocated numberplate.

at first i did some basic changes like unit garage exhaust but sold that one pretty quickly as it was just too obnoxiuosly loud and the sound wasnt good either + im pretty sure that it loses ponys, went for the aftermarket akra and also installed clip ons

then i figured that i want to go all in on this bike as i LOVE it, that meant stopping with the basic mods and stripping the whole thing

powdercoating all the silver parts and getting the all aluminium tank from the Euro 3 Models, i just like it more than the euro 4 ones as they dont have the shiny coating. also upgraded the suspension to öhlins in the front and Bielstein in the back

went for the urban GS seat and backpiece with the rizoma cover and tiny lights, was happy with the result....for a while 😁

the aftermarket akra still didnt do it for me as it did not have that great deep rumbling sound from the stock can and when i called my tuner he said that for performance the double oem akra pipe would be very good so i installed it together with the zard headers and got a big bore kit installed

old vs. new piston, you can see a noteable difference

the stock dyno run resulted in 113HP and 113Nm
after the big bore kit and custom mapping we are looking at 132.3HP and 140.4Nm

sadly the dips in the middle cant be flattened easily because of the airbox and that would require some mods that will make me lose performance on other parts of the curve and i need to keep it somewhat street legal but i am still very happy with the results!

and this is how she looks today

i am finished with this bike (for now 😂)

all the mods done to the bike:
  • Big Bore Kit 1300ccm
  • Zard SS Headers
  • Small front fender
  • Öhlins fork cartridges
  • probrake Clip Ons
  • lowerded the tachometers by 7cm
  • underbar mirrors
  • brake/clutch levers from Wunderkind
  • silver parts powder coated in black
  • Wilbers steering damper
  • LSL footrests
  • urban gs seat and back
  • kellermann tiny indicators/lights front and back
  • Bilstein shock/damper in back
  • HeinzBikes number plate holder
  • K&N air filter
  • OEM double akra can
  • unit garage intake cover
  • side stand from the scrambler

over the winter im planning to tweak the cylinder heads for a better airflow which will probably result in a few more ponies and a bit more torque, amazingly enough this is not even the end of the 1200ccm air cooled boxer, replacing the crank and camshaft will get you up to 1400ccm and over 150Hp / 150Nm but that is too expensive for the gains.

if you have some question i try to answer them. 🤟

Man that is a dive, a deep dive, salute to you sir. Makes me smile Big. To feel that edge of grip is amazing. Great picture even with the blur. You had some fun that day. Thanks for sharing the buzz. ………………. Blitz

StayUpOn2 ..! To those who ride Boxers @Kowalski .. “That” .. Sir is a scar of courage and skill … We know what it takes to get that deep in a turn. Again I salute you, I haven’t been that brave in many years … but I remember well pulling hard out of the back end of some endless curves that I knew… I should have gone down … that is a REAL thrill, coming out the other side ! Thanks for reminding me why I love to just ride. As kids we called it “Cruzing” …. somehow I’m still a kid everytime I get back on that bike……………………….. I sure act like one, I get stupid and go looking for mischief …………………………….Blitz 👍🏻

"Some work"?
From the looks of things, that is a lot of work!
Congrats and I admire your technical skill.
Question: apart from torx wrenches, did you have to use any special tools to get to this stage of disassembly?

Yeah @Chris<CJ> I'm sure a few torx came into play and at some point a large hammer too ! 🫡

there is not much needed besides a good set of torx bits and wrenches, tongs (?) and screwdrivers. even the clutch can be changed without any special tools. however you do need some special lubricants to reassemble the swingarm (the rubber cuffs need special grease to seal right and the driveshaft connections needs a special grease)

so i noticed that the original brake line was scrubbing to much because of the clip ons so i replaced them with a custom line as the original one was just too long.

had a small heart attack when starting the engine for the first time in weeks, it was smoking like crazy from the exhaust but that seems to be normal for the boxer when it sits on the sidestand for a longer time. snagged myself the oil pressure gauge from xray on black friday and installed that aswell.

and now shes up and running again, sadly have to wait for march for a ride to see if everything works as it should.

Somehow I’m pretty sure you nailed it … any left over nuts or bolts ? That usually marks the pro from the amateur, and from the picts shown ..I can be sure you’re no amateur at the 9T. Good to have your expertise available although in my life time I don’t think I’ll ever need to break Blitz down that far. I sure hope not anyway. Nicely Done Mate 🫡…………………………..Blitz
cheers mate 🤝

@Kowalski big bore really interests me. Few questions:
  • Is the maintenance period different?
  • Do you make services by yourself?
  • Is there any differences in services compared to OEM engine?
  • Did consumption higher?
  • Is the throttle response as smooth as before without any jerking?
  • Did you keep or remove catalytic converter? I am asking because here the police is always checking the exhaust on motorcycles and I am wondering is big bore kit working ok with stock exhaust (EURO4)?
maintenance period is the same and i do services by myself, no chance im giving my bike to some dealer for a half assed service :D. services do not change. with higher consumption you mean oil? no, the oil consumption went down by a good amount because the forged pistons actually have a good oil scraping ring unlike that thing on the OEM pistons, it is like 0-0.1 liters 1000km. fuel consumption must have gone up a bit but i dont really check that. throttle response is smooth and way better than stpck on the euro 4 models, you get instant response. i have the aftermarket zard headers with a catalytic converter, i sadly cant tell you if the stock headers would be capable for this big bore mod, it will work but it will probably net less performance increase.

Hello there, I am also interested for the same changes, could you please share the contact how t o buy 105mm Pistal forged pistons and bigger cylinders? and how much it takes?
contact Rehcing for all the Info, i did not order the parts myself, he built the engine for me :)

www.rehcing.de

fresh set of new tires is always nice but they are slippery as hell, need to break them in with caution.

Your bike looks mean as hell. Even standing still.
Excellent work and dedication. Definitely the cure for your previous 1250gs.

Looks good!
How did you get the shine back?
I used autosol anti-blue to remove the goldish shine and some...idk the english term but its basically some sort of wool that is like sandpaper but softer to remove the stronger tints, works like a charm and keeps the brushed metal look without polishing it.
