Awesome. I noticed there is a pad sold separately for $108. Please post pics and opinions of the hump with and without padding. I'm tempted to make the whole thing myself for that price, but it does look good. Congrats

... and that's how you save $483 (allowing $72 for material) plus $108 for that pad :D:D which BMW believes to be an extra .... (how stupid ) ...

great job, did you cut the hump from a mudguard or shape it on an English wheel?

Thanks, so far I've got $0 invested in that project. The seat pan rails are made of an old bed frame, and the sheet metal on the pan and the front of the hump were paid for left over material from doing some body work. The hump itelf started out as a KZ400 gas tank. I cut it in half, cut the bottom off, and then cut a 1inch strip out of the middle to make it narrower. After that there was a bit of welding to put it all back together. I wish I had more pictures of the whole process.

Penner, does $550.00 sound too much for a hump in your parts?

Remember, this is Los Angeles. :D:D:D

Ya gonna pay for it one way or another....

Hey, since you're going to have the hump long before me, would you mind taking photos all around of it and maybe seeing if that piece by where your tail bone is removable, please?

(thanks yogi bear for the photo!)

It would be an awesome place to stash tools if it could be hollowed out... much easier to justify buying too.;)

I think a small tool roll will fit, but never having seen this bike in person, i couldn't swear. But it sure looks like it...

it's the place of the rear seat, either... or
BMW offers a bag you can fix instead of the back seat, but it's a big bag, not a small and it's (of course) expensive

Already bought this bag while waiting for the iron. Brought it home yesterday and it is marvelous. The base will fit over either the standard of the plush seat. It is actually quite large and seems well built. There is a large zipper and a flap that folds over the zipper to keep your things dry. A couple of straps hold it in place and is easily mounted or removed from the bike. There are pockets on both ends (like the one seen above on the left side). They, too, have a weather resistant fold over flap. Now, when Nancy needs something from the store I'll jump right up and be on the road in a flash. The bag is large enough to fit quite a bit of groceries in it, has a sturdy bottom to keep things upright, and will keep enough clothes for a weekend trip to see my son. I had thought about getting the tank bag too but now see that it won't be needed even for weekend trips. This bike is not a cross country tourer, though our ancestors rode lesser bikes around the world and this could too. But if I had wanted to do that I would have bought the GSAdventure - which I saw the 2014 model yesterday and almost bought it too.
