Not sure yet exactly. I hadn't bothered to read the manual before my first 300+ miles, so I wasn't sure how to set the trip odometer(s) nor did I know what the computer was trying to tell me.

Based on how much fuel I dumped in after starting from a topped-off tank, I estimated somewhere around 44-45 mpg. After reading the manual to find out what had been indicated on the computer screen...my estimate was just about right.

My rides didn't have a lot of urban riding, but it did involve a fair amount of rev-changing which probably eats a little more gas.

So at 44 mpg with a 4.8 U.S. gallons of usable fuel (per the manual), you are potentially looking at 210 miles or so. Maybe a bit better depending on what you're doing.

Same tank size as the R1200R, which I get 48mpg out of. Got 250 miles out of a tank on that. Same gear ratios, but the wheels weigh more so more unsprung weight. I can see the mpg being a bit less, also it lends itself to being more aggressive as well. I would guess somewhere between 200-250 a tank depending on you and what traffic you ride in.

Actually the final drive ratio is slightly different than the 1200R.





With that said though the MPG should be very similar, on my 12R I saw a 170 - 230 mile range depending on how fast or aggressive I was riding. My MPG actually went up after I installed a Bazzaz Fuel controller with 12R specific maps because BMW had it running rich in the throttle position/rpm range at highway speeds.
I expect the 9T to average 200 miles out of a tank with normal highway riding, but fuel milage is subjective just like tire milage, depending on the conditions and rider.

Yup, I had pulled up the manuals on both and looked at the gear ratios, but not the final drive. I did remember them saying the gearing was the same as the GS.

175 miles

On my R12Rs I always got 38 to 39 mpg because most of my driving was either in-town or mountain roads with very little interstate driving. I always relied on the trip odometer and refilled with 175 miles on the clock. That was a bit conservative but I ran out of fuel with 185 miles on the clock once so I started going with 175.

Low Fuel Light

I have 2200 miles on my nineT and the low fuel light consistantly goes ON when I have used 3 gallons, Not 4. I had the software upgrade done at the 600 mile service. Does anyone else have this issue?

I fill the tank, reset the odometer, and add 3 gallons till the pump shuts off. I get 37 MPG consistantly, I thought the low fuel light is supposeded to go ON when you have 0.8 gal. Left in the tank, not 1.8 gallons.

You know, now that you mention it I think mine is doing this too. Right after my 600 I ran it to the fuel light and it filled up with a little over three gallons. I thought it was weird but ignored it. I've filled before the indicator since but I'll test and see. Prior to service it did fill around four gallons...

It's a four gallon tank (18 litres)with 3x litres of your 18 as reserve ,so the light comes on maybe a little early to remind you your fuels getting low ,but will only truly work if your tank is filled each time your down to your reserve and used ;)
I trust my trip data over my fuel gauge always and once I've covered 150 miles I know its time to get it a drink before I'm pushing it home :D:D
I've taken it down to no miles left in the tank to see how accurate it is and it's well in your favour so it's safe to play with the devil at times when necessary:)

Yep. Mine is even worse. Fuel light comes up after 100 miles and only takes in approx. 2 gallons. Happened 3 time already. I'm booked for 600 miles service on Friday and will have this checked. On the phone, they said it could be a calibration error. I'll let you know the outcome.

Took my bike to the 1000km service today. I've mentioned that I have to refill every 160-200km or so (about 8lt/2gallons) because the low fuel light comes on.

They've told me that the tank was not filling up completely because I had the bike on the side stand while refueling. They suggest to hold the bike straight or sit-up on the bike while refueling and the it would work fine. I guess it has to do with the design of the tank. They even refueled once to test it.

It may be the solution but it sounds weird to me to be required to sit on the bike to make it upright while refueling. :confused:

That doesn't really sound right at all! Aside from the fact that sitting on the bike while refuelling is frowned upon, and most fuel stations will stop Your pump if they see You sitting on the bike while filling up! We've had no such issues with Mrs Chumba's 9T, the light usually comes on with 80k's to go, after around 240k's travelled! No problems refuelling, just a little patience required at the top end of the tank. (let it dribble in)
