We were out at our dealer today to compare the 9 with a 1200R and were told the 9 will be at the IMS here in Phoenix in January. And BMW would be taking orders and making deals for the NineT so I'll be there in line on Friday when the doors open and head straight to the BMW Booth and lay down some cash, apparently they are making some deals with BMW owners. So we will see

We shall see, even if it means assurances of top of the list, guaranteed delivery etc. It will be worth it IMHO. Time will tell, maybe even a reduction in the options would be good.

Well it finally arrived, straight over to the booth, grabbed my dealer and asked him to get the guy off my bike so I could get it out of there :D he would not oblige me. Well I liked it, and more importantly she liked it and we are sold, #3 in the list at Scottsdale BMW to take delivery, first or second week in March.

anyone else notice the bluing on the header? Someone, has been riding Einstein's bike! I still am a bit worried about ergonomics (at least for me). I see Einstein with his leg down, and the Mrs the same, with their shin on the peg. Might have a few scraped shins, if one wears normal pants.

really? :D ... hm ... wouldn't forward acceleration from immobility (foot on ground) result, via kinetic miracle, in the involuntary but automatic movement of the leg away from the peg, in a rear/and upward motion? At the other hand, on the occasion of having to perform an emergency stop - wouldn't the feet still be firmly planted on the pegs .... and out of the way?

It seems logical then, to deduce that the most dangerous & common situation where shins might be scraped, is where the rider, whilst seated on the bike, tries to reverse-push the bike into a convenient spot in the garage, at the cafe, in front of the cinema or such ....

You're really worried about that?

maybe it's time to invest in one of those handy garage-bike-lifter-movers :p

Well, since its been so many years since I have ridden regularly, I look at stuff like that. I was talking simply about when I just put my feet (or foot) down at a stop. Most cruisers, your shin is well behind the peg, and many cafe's (lets pick a monster for example), the shin/leg is in front of the peg when the legs are down. Just have to sit on it and see.

We discussed this with the BMW guys and you can put your foot down in front or behind the peg, whichever is easier for you.

Things I found out at IMS

  1. Missing from all of the photos and bikes at the IMS shows, is the charcoal cannister under the seat, required for CA Fuel Emmissions
  2. The high Akrapovic silencer will be dropped from options in the USA because of previously mentioned charcoal cannister being implemented requires the same mounting area or something like that.
  3. The bike will come with spokes and tubes despite any internet blog or forum chatter to the contrary related to cast wheels and tubeless tires.
  4. The rear drive hub has mounting locations for a license plate and light but will not be an option offered by BMW, just aftermarket providers.
