I seems the oil temperature readout has been removed from the instrument display. I want to add a gauge, just for my peace of mind. Since most other R models have this incorporated in the stock instrument, I presume I can get a stock sender unit that will go in some existing fitting on the engine? Any one know where it is located? Then I just have to find a display that will blend in with the existing instruments. Or just replace everything with the incredible Motogadget stuff!

Thanks for any info.

Yes the oil temp isn`t displayed anymore ;-(
The R 1200 R has displayed it, so somewhere must be a sensor .....
Every new day another issue with T:

1. tubes ..
2. no integral ABS
3. already sensored things are not displayed ....
what will be next ????

Btw. If we get a Kick Starter I would love it ........

NSX get emailing:D
... I don't believe there isn't an oil temp gauge .
It's just not shown in pictures as the engine isn't running so the full dash won't show its full display will it now ;[/QUOTE

I hope you are right. Do you think there are different gauge assemblies for different markets, because if there aren't, then the gauges we have seen pictures of are what we all are getting, and they don't display temperature, whether the engine is running or not. The portion of the display that shows temperature on the R12R (supposedly the same gauge) is covered up, not visible on the nineT.

This was posted on the R12R forum:

"BMW began eliminating the temp sensor, temp read outs, fuel gauge and miles till empty readouts on r12002's on the 2013 models. R1200r Bikes built after feb 2013 don't have them. Neither do the T Nine bikes. (BMW found a way to use up parts for the R,rt, and gs air cooled with the t-nine). I don't know if the 2013 rt's have the gauges etc."

Are they removing them from the bikes because they are are not working? Most motorcycles beyond the most basic models have these gauges displayed. BMW is a high end motorcycle and it's removing basic gauges because they are unreliable? I don't understand why they can't come up with something that works.

That's probably not the right approach. They didn't remove it because it's unreliable, more likely because you don't really need it. As long as the bike is in motion, the oil temp will never go into the red area and I had a least 10 bikes without fuel gauge and never run out of gas...

Gerry, BMW had a lot of problems with the fuel gauge on the R1200R. So many they decided to remove it on the last edition of the R1200R.
They could have kept the oil gauge. For what reason they removed that one too is a mystery.

I had some problems with the day trips in the beginning. Without the fuel gauge and without day trips, it was a **** cruising on sundays. Happily for me, the problem is resolved now.
I don't miss the gauges.

The fuel gauge in my GSA is really exact and reliable. It shows the remaining distance with a 5 km tolerance. But I agree, the elder machines had Problems, it depends on the Year of Constitution.
