Potential becomes actual!

Hi from Kirkland, WA everyone,

I had posted asking about a potential move from a GS to an Urban G/S. Bolstered by the thoughts of members here, I did it. I went out and found a dealer with a remaining 202140 Years edition (I like both the look of that model and a nice dirt road/fire road/beginner trail from time to time, and while any of the NineT's could handle "off roading" at that level, I like to dress for the part:cool:) and got a great deal on it. I name my bikes, and I'll have to spend some time getting to know the bike, but Buzz is a possibility.

Any thoughts about whether a changing of all fluids would be necessary or just a good idea considering they aren't fresh?

Anyway, looking forward to being a part of the community and learning from everyone!

Congrats on your new UGS anniversary edition! What a beauty! :)

Since the bike is still new with no (or few) miles on it, I probably wouldn't worry about the fluids right away. But a little research says fluids should be changed every 1-2 years. BMW's own maintenance schedule says as much, too. If you haven't already taken delivery maybe work in replacing all the fluids as part of the deal with the shop.

Congrats again!

Welcome, from NYC - I have a 40th anniversary as well. Great looking bikes that invite admirers at traffic lights, rest stops and passing cars on the road!

The yellow seat gets dirty very easily. Wish I knew of a smart way to get it to its original shine.

That's a really good tip. I might try to apply something like this, though such products are really about sun protection rather than grime, and might make the seat slippery and thus be a problem.

Some of your issue, though, likely comes from being in NYC. I lived in the West Village in the 90s and dated a woman on the Upper East Side. If I rode from hers to mine without gloves (flame suit donned and zipped), my fingernails would be filthy when I got home. Just one of the downsides that comes with living in such an amazing place!

BTW, I asked ChatGPT how to clean it and how to protect the seat from dirt/grime - it suggested to wax it. o_O I don't think ChatGPT rides a motorcycle!

Oy DucRIder,

Oh, they look so cute when they are babies... But seriously, names, I love it, I name all my rides, however, as for advice from a guy that calls himself Gogo riding a bike he named after coffee I would think twice about any name I come up with. No seriously...

And fluid changes? I'm not sure that unused/barely used fluids have an expiration date, maybe Blitz would have an some ideas there, just sayin.

Anywho, fine looking ride you have there, and good luck, good riding, and get some crashers put on that ride...

Kind regards,

I can relate. I have to wash the bike just about every single time I take it out even for short rides.

In my case however, the damage to my seat was courtesy of poor quality #Dainese gear, leaking dye all over when I got stuck in a 2 min (literally) summer rain. Both the yellow seat and the yellow GS embroidery have black hues on them now.

What seems to defy logic (?) is that the dye that got washed into the seat with a simple rain water refuses to leave, no matter how many times I wash it with water and soap and other products !

Enjoy the new bike.
I grew up on Yarrow Point, so know your area well.
Spent many a weekend riding the RR tracks between Bellevue and Totem Lake on my Honda 90 when I was 13 y/o and lived in Houghton (and watching the X-Rated drive-in movies from the Tracks, back when they showed them...and had drive-ins...and X-rated movies on the big screens...). I kind of miss those days.

Welcome to the forum. In your place If all the bike has done from new is sit on the dealership floor then (in your position) I'd just check the engine oil level and wait till the 600 mile service is due... :) Tip is to check engine oil level regularly as some can drink a little for the first couple of thousand miles.

Welcome, great looking ride! As for the seat, you could get a banana-man outfit…

Just kidding, don’t do that, somebody might run you over intentionally.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That picture is someone's advertisement selling that suit?! I think I'd sooner buy the baby goat strapped to the back of the GS. Cuz, you know - those baby goats in pajamas are a hoot!

Definitely - one of my first adds. Question is . . . black or yellow? I'll probably go yellow, but I need to mull it some.
Great looking bike. Enjoy :)

I got the dealer installed (BMW?) silver version. At the time I didn't know about the aftermarkets in different colors. If I had a choice again, certainly yellow !
