First post so be gentle.

I have a 1250 GS TE already. I have always liked the look of the standard r nine t. I have a chance of a brand new 22 at a reasnoable price. I have never sat on one let alone ride one. i am being told that they are un comfortable with a stretch to the bars putting pressure on wrists and back. Is this correct. I’m 5 foot 9.

Welcome! We just had a similar thread, see here: New member, considering the RNineT as a second bike.
Ergonomics are certainly different (compare the 2 bikes with that app mentioned). I wouldn’t worry too much, stuff can be adjusted if really necessary.
Aside from all of us, the search function is your friend😉

I bought mine before riding it. It was in a consignment shop and I made an impulse buy based on it's mileage and age. I made a few adjustments to the suspension but haven't messed with anything else. I spent about 10 hours on it one day and don't see any need yet. The seat is thin and hard but I find it works. Welcome to the asylum. I'd suggest you buy the bike and make any changes you require/desire as you go. Modifying and customizing ability of the R NineT seems to be one of it's greatest strengths.

Hi there, good to have you here. I am assuming the offer is from a BMW dealership and they have the bike in stock (or it is soon to arrive). If the bike is in stock they should allow you to sit on it, and they might perhaps have a bike you could take a test ride on.

Not in the slightest unless it’s the racer. I’m 5”6 and no problem at all, I can ride it all day (referring to a 400miler) and still feel good when I get off. Btw welcome in and 996?Ducati man then at some point?

Welcome to the forum. If you already have a 1250 GS, you probably have the wherewithal to purchase the 22 and if you don't like it offload it. It's a different bike with different ergonomics. The 1250 does everything really well. This bike will force you to make some compromises. If you are not willing to do that. It might not be the bike for you.

Hi and welcome to the forum. 👋
I am just under your height and feel very comfortable on the nineT.
I actually prefer the slightly forward seating position, but if you feel uncomfortable, a pair of handlebar risers is an easy fix.

There will be 2 major differences. Height and smoothness. The R9T is a lot lower. The 1250 is a lot smoother. The R9T’s wide handle bars shouldn’t bother you coming from a gs. The seat won’t be as comfortable but that’s an easy swap.
The major thing though is the engine. The R9T vibrates more and shakes a lot more on startup. The clutch is a lot rougher and engages more abruptly. But don’t let these things scare you away. The character of the R9T’s engine is its charm and for me what makes it so much fun. It’s a total hooligan where the 1250 is a refined gentleman.
I don’t own a GS but I do have an R9T and a 1250RS. There have been very few bikes over the years of riding that are “keepers” that I would hate to part with. The R9T is one.

I'd suggest that you'd need to sit on one at least, however, there are always bar risers.

I have a '16 plate, which has a lower seat height than the '22, and I did find that the reach to the bars was a bit of a stretch. I added a pair of 20mm risers which has really helped.

I am 5'9" and have a 2018 urban GS. I did install risers for a more upright riding position and a small windshield, but otherwise I don't find it uncomfortable. Mine came with a BMW solo seat, which is a bit hard, but I have had no trouble putting up 250 miles in a day; 300 was pushing my limit.

Hi and welcome. I have a 21 pure, I’m 5’ 9”. Slightly 😄 over 15 stone (sorry couldn’t be bothered to convert). I’ve done 100 mile no breaks journeys no probs. Yes the standard seat is a bit thin, but that’s the beauty of these bikes. Customisation. Will probably upgrade sometime, but it’s definitely not a deal breaker. You’ve got the GS for longer journeys.

Only 16 posts on if or when he should get an R NineT is just the beginning. This horse has just barely made it out of the barn. This topic can go on for months even if the OP decides to stop participating altogether.

How much are you getting it for, I love mine and I think you would love it when you start riding, the seat is firm but it’s comfortable to ride and the position is nice.
