First post so be gentle.

I have a 1250 GS TE already. I have always liked the look of the standard r nine t. I have a chance of a brand new 22 at a reasnoable price. I have never sat on one let alone ride one. i am being told that they are un comfortable with a stretch to the bars putting pressure on wrists and back. Is this correct. I’m 5 foot 9.
I am just over your height with a classic and have never thought of the position being a stretch, the racer model absolutely. I have also ridden with a riser fitted on my classic but find the position and handling preferable for me without . I have the high bench seat fitted which also makes the world of difference re comfort.

I'm not so sure he did buy it. He never posted after starting this thread. Maybe the horse beating was a bit overwhelming to him after all. Makes sense though, trying to ask advice from people who claim silly things like discs float. :p

I have the 1250GS too and the Urban R9T 40 year edition. Since you're used to the GS, you'll find the 9T uncomfortable as I have, I'm 5'11. However, the 9T is a great bike and addicting to ride due to the feedback you get from the bike. It feels raw and makes you concentrate on the machine and the road more. My 9T does not have a gear indicator and I love it like that, since I have to pay attention to the engine roar and vibration when deciding what gear to be on. My future mods when I get the chance are to change the shocks and tyres (bloody loud they are). The only mod I did so far are re-upholster the seat with gel inserts and bar risers. Still uncomfortable but a very enjoyable ride.

I think it's a good choice... for a second bike; I have an R1100S SportLight (Telelever/paralever) and an RnineT that Ive modified to be a retro cafe racer... my first suggestion is to have the new RninrT suspension tuned after you do any modifications that alter your riding position. Suspension tuning is a bit more critical on an RnineT than on the standard R bikes (Telelever/paralever) and ther's a learning curve getting used to fork dive when you use the front brakes... other than that, have fun with it ;)

Thank you for all your posts and PM’s. I have taken the plunge and bought a new 2022 R Nine T in black. Getting this week, I can’t wait.
That's awesome welcome to this world. Please take the time to ride that bike for a little bit before you start any sort of mods. The bike is beautiful the way it is. The little things can be a set of bar risers Which shouldn't run you over $25 American 30 at the most. You can go and buy the big name ones and when you open the package you'll see nine times out of 10 it's the same as the $25 risers. Give the stock seat a chance and if it doesn't work for you , there are options. I personally enjoy the sergeant seats and I've used them on several bikes have one on the R9Ts now. Maybe look at foot pegs down the line. Risers, seat cargo management and suspension is a good order. All the other stuff is just an exercise in vanity. You have to give your self time to get used to that bike before you start snapping new stuff on it. You got to give your butt time to adjust to the new seat. Enjoy your ride.

Thanks for your kind words. I’m soon to be a 59 year old, been biking on and off for 30 years. Went back to it in 2016 and haven’t had a break since then. If your wondering whats under the cover it’s a 2022 GS 1250 Rallye edition with both billet packs and a whole lot more.
