Well I’ve finally started on my R9 Tourer build. Hard luggage first after the center stand fit.

I’m going with Shad SH36 cases but I’ve to make the mounts as there’s no fitting kit available. I’ve fitted a ‘scrap’ rear subframe in case I wreck the good one and if needed I can weld onto it. It takes a bit of setting up to get a ‘zero’ point to work from but I’ve got one now. The bike will need a similar rear seat making to the front in shape to go with the look. That’s it for today folks! 😉

And another couple of easy-to-see pics

This is ready to gorilla 🦍 glue together 👻 now. Don’t even comment if you really think I go down that line!
Generally I’m a little disappointed with the bike not being truly square as I set it up very close to perfect but some oem parts don’t seem to want to comply. The bike was well pampered wrapped in cotton wool and virtually no miles so it’s obviously come from the factory like that.

So I’ve a rack to make now for a top box as I’m going to go with a wider rear passenger seat. Then I’ve to balance the look of the indicators and a mudguard then to fold up.

@deksawyer not weighed it as yet. I originally got part of it second hand from a gs750 and that weighed a ton. It also used 5mm thick flat plates. This weighs far less. As the main flat plates are structural I won’t be shaving weight as it needs all it’s strength. When it’s all done then I’ll put the components on a scale and assess it as I’ll be fitting a new rear damper set up so I need accurate figures.
@GTMartin so they won’t invest? Tut tut, music to my ears!

Ok it’s been a while so I’ve left the rack for it’s minor adjustment and gone onto my rear mudguard build as it’s all part of it at some point.
So my idea if it works is an BMW OEM styled two piece mudguard that’s actually very functional and looks within the style of the rest of the bike. By that I don’t mean ripped out butchered look that a lot of many cafe racers have gotten but more conservative in style.
Here’s some pics of the build underway… Tire Wheel Automotive tire Bicycle tire Motor vehicle

This is where I’m at currently and the steel section is ready to template it’s sides. I’ve used 1.6mm mild steel for this as it’s very robust to work with. Not sure if I’m going to actually use this item in steel on my bike or make an aluminium copy. I never modify bikes where I cut things out and always like them to be able to go back to std but in this case I’ve changed two M4 rivnut threads to M6 for the mudguard to bolt under the seat which is the only bike butchery that’s been unavoidable. My idea is to reproduce as many of these as possible for other owners to be able to fit themselves.
The build continues………
