Firstly, thanks everyone for contributing to this Forum. It's been awesome to watch it evolve over the last few weeks, and see everyone else is as excited as me about this new bike. I'm collecting a shortlist of mods that I'd like to do to the bike, but the one thing that *HAS* to go on day one is that tail. I've seen the R1200R vs Nine T plans that were shared earlier, and wondered if anyone else thinks a R1200R tail tidy will replace that ugly OEM one? Thanks in advance :)

What bikes do you currently own and have owned in the past?

And of course a tail tidy kit is need for th nineT to keep it clean ;)

Really?! I've never heard of people getting tickets for a tidy tail unless it actually is displayed improperly.

I think the fender eliminator is a necessary mod on almost any bike that you buy. If you are going to do mods on a bike, the first thing you should start with is eliminating the fender.

You don't think the fender has a purpose?
i don't elimate fenders
that ends up costing money in replaced shocks... which are ruined in a short amount of time
TIDYING up the tail is one thing
but...
the plate must be clearly visible... and not VERTICALLY mounted like some sport bike riders, who's arrogance outweighs their intelligence

i love folks who illegally mount their plates and change out their turn signals to become almost completely INVISIBLE to those riding behind them

i can't wait to customize my R nineT... but, safety and conspicuity will always come first for me

What is a hump ? What means Tidied ?
Marc, As you know, most motorcycles are legally obligated to have a large piece of plastic sticking out from the rear which houses the license plate holder and turn signals. This sort of contraption is mandated by most governments. A lot of people remove this because they are usually unsightly. Some, however, do so at the risk of making their bikes much less conspicuous to those vehicles traveling behind, which is a horrible mistake and error in judgment.

As long as you keep the turn signals, brake light, and licence plate visible, I don't think there is much of a danger. Many people make this mod on their bike and this is the first time I have heard that it is dangerous.
The first time you heard it is dangerous?
Haven't you seen these modifications done before with the turn signals are made smaller and much more towards the midline of the frame, thereby making them less visible to the traffic from the rear?
One of the things that makes these government mandated tail sections of motorcycle so displeasing to most of us is how far the turn signals are spread apart and behind the rear the bike. This is done to make the bike much more visible and your intention to turn much more noticeable to people traveling behind you. Therefore, every single tail tidy design takes away from this intended meaning, therefore making your bike less visible to those traveling behind you and by definition more dangerous on the road

LED turn signals have help to eliminate this issue because they are far brighter than the incandescent bulbs they have replaced.

thats what i noticed.
need to be careful about these things even aftermarket turn signals, some guys get AF ones that are just too slick and not as noticeable

License plate/light display

I'm going to go against the grain a bit here.....I agree the plastic probismus is unsightly. The solution..... I keep getting a picture coming up on the mental display board of a polished aluminum fender, gracefully terminated about 15 degrees aft of the seat, with a small raised section to hold the tail-light and plate. Look at a picture of a '68 Bonneville rear fender and you will have the general idea.

I agree with Clearwater, the shock should be shielded from road debris. Especially the Ohlins shock I plan to have there. Keeping the OEM light of course.

I'm pretty sure that the technical rules in (the state of NSW) Australia state that

"A rear wheel mudguard must extend at least from a point vertically above the front of the tyre to a point vertically above the rear of the tyre. It must be mounted as close as practicable to the tyre."

I believe that in other areas there are regulations that state the rear wheel must be covered to a 45 degree angle from the rear axle.

This explains why some sports bikes in particular have ridiculously (and hideous) extensions of the back of the bike.

You also need to have the number plate clearly visible and a white light illuminating it

I know of plenty of bikes that have been tidied (modified) and don't technically comply with the above but I haven't heard of anyone being pulled up on it.

I'll be keen to shorten mine up a bit when I get it.
