removed the stock akra baffles and the bike sounds amazing...it is the perfect engine note. anyone considering a replacement can for sound purposes only should take out the stock baffles. took me a few minutes to do.

word to the wise; do not use the seat removal key, rather use a ratchet. my seat key is now bent and out of round.

*MODERATOR EDIT * PLEASE NOTE BAFFLE REMOVAL IS ONLY EASILY POSSIBLE ON PRE-2017 MODELS. LATER BIKES HAVE BAFFLES WELDED INTO PLACE!

Nice one but have you noticed you've lost a small amount of engine breaking with them removed ??
I had a Remus can on my last triple black GS and it was noticeable when throttling off ,not loads but not as good as with the standard can ;):D

When I've changed exhaust set ups on Harleys I've always had the bike's ecm recalibrated. On my Ducati Monster 1100 the Termignoni exhaust came with a new ecm. I think the general issue with removing exhaust baffles is that it can make the air / fuel ratio too lean.

I don't know much about HD motorcycles, but the baffles on the T do not look like they build much back pressure. The HD baffles I have seen look like exhaust cores. The ones I removed today were barely two inches long. will take some pictures and post a sound video.

I have been mucking about with exhaust/air box mods for many years. I can actually rebuild and adjust a carburetor if you can believe that..l don't claim to be an expert, but I am fairly knowledgeable. If there are any negatives I will let the forum know.

I have read that BMW, like many European manufacturers, program their fuel mix lean to meet emission standards and that re-flashing the ECM can result in improved performance. If that is correct, I would like to know which shops can (and are willing) to reflash my ECM.

Hilltop motorcycles in the uk, just ridden my brothers 2012 r1200gs with the flashed ecu, (same motor), it goes like stink! And so butter smooth, very impressive! Much more responsive and smoother than standard, also is an open loop fuelling map now so will always trim towards optimum air fuel ratio regardless of mods, my brothers gs has remus de-cat headers and Leo Vince can and goes very well indeed!
I will be sending my ecu there as soon as my bike arrives, I have ordered the low mount akrapovic and will be putting remus de-cat headers on also.

Ditto on that Ant but I will take my 9T to see Geoff and watch his majic on the rolling road to get the maximum set up ,it normally takes him 2-3 runs to make him happy with optimum set up ,I will also get a discount for being a second time around customer as he flashed my triple black GS with awesome results and as you say once flashed it transforms the twin cam motor ;):D:D

I took mine out and I can't say I noticed any difference in sound. I think the US baffle just fills the space and probably eliminates some soot from collecting on the back of the exhaust. I imagine other areas have baffles that extend much more than an inch and a half in.

many if not all manufacturers set their bikes up with lean fueling to pass emissions standards. most fuel injected motorcycles will benefit from a re-map of the stock software without any hardware modifications.

by benefit i don't necessarily mean more HP. the result might be a smoother torque curve, elimination of any soft-spots in your rev range, or less throttle snatchiness.

Totally 100% on that path !it makes a huge difference on this twin cam engine ;):D
