BMW Motorrad sent out several pre-production R nineT bikes to customizers for them to show off their skills. Roland Sands is one of these lucky customizers.

This build is not yet finished but we have some "in-the-works" pictures that get me really excited. I am loving the brown leather seat.

“My inspiration was very much the customer and what he/she could do without major effort. I really wanted to look at it from a consumer’s perspective and what they could do themselves without major tools, cutting, grinding or any of the stuff that is painful to start working with on a brand new, beautiful motorcycle like the R nineT,” Roland Sands adds.

i like Roland Sands. but this is just terrible.
these pictures make me wanna cancel my order. or may be its just bad photographer?
hope other tuners do better(
Same feeling...not working for me. the seat, the black, the headlight, the ODO, the pipe....just personal feeling.

Right now I am just happy with the stock bike. I like the silver look on Black. the only thing I will do is a Solo seat set up and find a short pipe. then it will become my everyday-to-work bike.

Love the Akrapovic pipe but it too long for the solo seat.

I also don't think this is an improvement on the stock R9T.
Sorry Roland.
The seat is wonky, the gauges are heavy-handed as is the headlight, and the blacked out forks are bleh. :(
The head covers look like advertising.
Nope.

This just proving that the original design is pretty solid. :D

Roland sands puts out some good looking stuff, and for the most part I like it. I do however agree that this isn't some of his best work. The red lights above the clocks need to go. The black forks are nice, but to get rid of the gold only to add a gold RSD logo on the pipe doesn't make sense. He has built a good enough reputation to start toning down his emblems a bit. Personally I would much rather talk up his good products to people who ask where I got the nice parts rather than be an RSD billboard. I'm sure a lot of effort went into this, but I think we were all hoping for a more drastic change in appearance. Instead it's a buch of blacked out pricey parts with a bit more hardware.

Roland Sands said as much. If you watch the 'Making of SoulFuel' behind-the-scene-video (7 min), which seems to have just recently been added to the official NineT Fascination website (scroll down, it's just below the different exhaust options), Roland states that the R9T has enough street cred as it is, and being somewhat 'nondenominational' it would garner enough respect the way it is ....

so, how can you improve on something you were already involved in bringing to life? Really, I think he needs more time & space away from the R9T to come back with fresh ideas. He's probably felt the need to compete with the fire & zest Blitz & el Solitario had shown immediately .... (I personally don't think much of Urban Motor's effort) .... this is his 2nd super effort for BMW (R Concept 90, R9T) ... will someone pleeease give him an BMW-Oscar already?!! ;)

Although it looks like a finished product im pretty sure i read from somewhere that its a work in progress. I do agree however that the seat (shape, length & color) looks out of place.

I asked BMW Motorrad the following question where they quickly responded:

ME: Any chance you can make the Concept 90 accessories open to the public!!??

BMW Motorrad: Hi Christopher, unfortunately not. However, the R nineT is really made for customizing and BMW offers lots of options for this bike. There are also some professional gearheads offering their service to realize your imagination of the perfect bike.

I'm sure it's a business decision by both BMW and RSD but sad to see this as I was sold on the concept bike but the NineT not so much!
