The rear shock of the RnineT classic 2014 to 12/2019 has the following dimensions:

From 2020:

I'll be interested (and surprised) if an S1000 shock fits an R NineT, or is an improvement at all. The rear suspension is obviously a completely different setup and will have different leverage as well as the sprung and unsprung weights being different, so even if the shock can be hacked about to physically fit the spring rate and damping will most likely be completely wrong - and the shock length and stroke will likely be different too, which will mess with the suspension travel and overall geometry.

For the amount of work it will take I struggle to see why anyone would bother instead of getting a Nitron/Maxton/Wilbers/Whatever shock which is sized, sprung and valved for the bike and will fit without modification tbh. But maybe that's just me!

Beemershop has done a fair amount of research into suspensions. He's got Good recommendations and can ship with any spring rate

Sad to report that the 2011 S1000rr rear shock does not fit. The shock itself is 2 inches too short for the R9t frame slot. I guess I'll start saving for Ohlins or Wilburs and now I'm selling a double R rear shock. On a happy note, the rear pillion frame delete is complete and makes the rear end look better.

ed: and keep in mind, there's no homologation from BMW for that shock on the 9T. An accident means a lot of trouble...
i think that is a big problem for us germans and the hard regulations, in the Uk probably not that big of a problem

the main reason i see why the s1krr shock wont fit is that canister on the bottom, that might hit the swingarm

Thanks for trying it, hopefully that puts all of the hypothetical discussions to bed now! Not a surprise outcome by any means but it's good to know for sure.

Do consider other manufacturers too, I know that here in the UK at least Nitron are very well regarded and tend to be cheaper than Ohlins for comparable performance (with more customisation from the factory).
