It seems a few in the U.S. are lucky enough to have received their R nineT's ahead of the general release which is 14 March or later in other places.

I for one would love to hear the riding experiences and assessments of those who have their machines over and above 'reviewers' who speak another language for obvious reasons.

We all know what the nineT looks like.

BUT

How tall are you?

How heavy are you?

How long have you been riding?

How do the ergos and ride experience compare with ...........?

Have you tried two up?

Gearbox/clutch experience?

Suspension assessment?

What are the negatives?

What should we ponder while we wait?

Paid for my today and did all the paperwork. License plate is on it. I can take delivery any time, but I offered to leave it at Euro Cycles in Tampa for tomorrow when the local BMW club meets for a pancake breakfast. I will take for a ride in the afternoon. I'm leaving it there for a week so that their customers can see it. It IS a beautiful bike, and pictures don't do it justice. The fit and finish is impeccable...a very beautiful bike.

My Dad started me on motorcycles when i was in 2nd grade, havent stopped riding since.
Ive been beta testing the 9t for the past 2 days. Didnt get to ride today though, too cold. Spring cant come soon enough! Ergonomics is slightly more relaxed than my monster which is exactly what i was looking for. Press the starter button and the bike comes alive with a deep rumble, i really like the sound of the stock akra cans. The youtube videos dont do the sound justice. The clutch is light(lighter than the monster) and the gearbox is so smooth it makes my ducati gearbox feel clunky. As expected the ride is sublime, trolling around town between traffic lights is easy and when the road opens up and turns into back roads its just as easy flicking it from one corner to the next. Travelling on the highway is tolerable, if you want to be anywhere above 75 youll need to be in the tucked position. Its been great so far i dont have any gripes as far as the ride is concerned, i just wish we N.Americans have the euro tail light. Im Planning on having some more saddle time this sunday.

Ian, I like what you wrote:

Flickable: already sounds so much better than my current 'C'
Akra sound: yep, clearly better than my trial of chopped 'C' pots
Smooth gearbox: nice ....
Ergonomics: Possibly a tad more upright and sporty compared to the 'C', which I'm really looking forward to! Feet on the rear pegs and tucking in is somewhat unseemly on the Cruiser ;)

... thanks for your impressions ... keep'em coming :D:cool:

Great feedback Ian

Thanks Ian, you are obviously rapt.

Ergo - will it suit the average 6 footer? Many were concerned that as it is a "small" bike (anything is alongside a GS) it may prove uncomfortably constricted.

I hope it will suit touring even tho' it's not designed for that. After all the GS is a relatively young model in the nineT year lineup.

I'm keen to head out of town and keep going for a week or two. Erode I think about coming back. What is it the say? Not the destination but the journey...

I hope you update us with your further observations.

Anyone else able to pass on rider opinions.

All feedback gratefully received ;-))

Im almost 6Ft and well over that with riding boots and the ergos are very comfortable. If your looking to tour with it, wunderlich have just come out with accesories and one of them is a windguard/half fairing.

I noticed the German site does not ship to the US, and the US site doesn't seem to have the parts listed yet.

Very encouraging ergo

Thanks Ian.

I like what I'm hearing. I don't have an issue with naked.

I've had 2 R1200R's from which I removed the sports screen to eliminate screen turbulence and a HP Megamoto which was almost the same. No problems with wind up to about 140 kph, so should not be a problem. Although I like faster, 140kph is a sensible limit on our roads because after that the lawman gets very cranky and so do the courts so it kinda fits.

Call it a natural speed limiter/ governor.

Major downside is that in our insect laden land I end up with bug guts all over my leathers and helmets - shades of 'wild hogs' haha

Very light handling, throttle response and breaking is spot on, and the sound - oh my gawd, it has a deep throaty rumble. I did a couple short rides and left it at the dealer (Euro Cycles) of Tampa for a week or so in order that people can see it as they don't know when the next one arrives. BMW got this one right on the money, and I've been riding 45yrs and BMW's for 37. I was smiling from ear to ear...what a ride...

My son and I drove down to the dealer today, and basically accused them (jokingly) of hiding my crated bike in the warehouse. The owner happened to be there (who owns several dealerships, car and bike). He said after mine, they will have the opportunity to order another couple bikes in a month or two, then maybe a semi regular schedule after that. He said the response has been unbelievable. I told him, since I am in the business of buying and selling, I can be bought.......at the right price LOL.

Regarding the tail light and reflectors looking like add ons, the tail light appears to be borrowed from their US spec 800, for one, and he said there were some problems at customs with all the bikes. Could that have been due to the tail light and reflectors? Be interesting to hear the take on that from some of the other forum members' contacts.

Smooth ride everyone. This is my first BMW (18th bike but who is counting) being primarily a Harley rider I looked for the "clunk" going in to first grear but nothing, not a sound or movement. I looked at the salesman and ha at me try it again he said but still the same, smooth as butter. The sound is great for stock pipes, meybe the best sounding stock bike I have heard and the torque or the motor moves the bike at standstill. I am 5-10 195 lbe and it fits me great. Rode home a litle on freeway mostly on back roads and my smile grew with every mile. This may well become one of my favorite bikes ....ever! Hope y'all get yours soon. Until then .... I outta here.

BMW of Ventura called me on Thursday to say they had my bike in.
I was 5th on their list.
So that means the four people ahead of me passed for whatever reason on the bike.
And I passed on it as well. So person number 6 got the bike.
They came in on Friday in the storm of the century here and rode it home in the torrential deluge we had.

Why did I pass on it? When I learned I was 5th, I went to another dealer and put my deposit there.
Turns out they are great people. And even tho I wanted the bike terribly, the treatment I received at West Valley Cycle is unique.
So I decided to wait it out with them.
Yes, they are that nice.

Was able to take her out yesterday for the first time, despite freezing temperatures. I am coming from a Ducati Monster. I am 6.1 185 lb. Bike looks smaller than the Monster, but it's not, according to specs. You definitely sit a little lower though and the r9t is easier to handle due to the lower center of gravity. Reach to the bars is about the same, maybe a little more straight up on the r9t. Seems comfortable, but i need more time on the seat.

Sound has nice bass and rumble to it, not as raw as the monster, much more subdued. Also, not as loud as a Monster. Throttle response is gradual and progressive, which makes it very easy to control. The bike definitely is flickable, but it's certainly not as fllickable as a a street bike like the s100rr. Clutch is completely silent.

The only negative about the bike for me is the tail. Not just the light, but the entire plastic tail piece. Its completely out of place on this beautifully crafted bike. I will disassemble the tail piece today to see what aftermarket light can be fitted. I will post pictured so you guys can see the assembly and frame connections and come up with your own solutions. Cheers...
