Well, I can tell you that BMW auto speedometers are always, and I mean always optimistic. Not by much, but my GPS says 65, my speedo says 68-70. In my old Mercedes, if the gps says 65, the speedo is pretty much right on 65. I've noticed this on BMW's for many years. Dunno if they want you to think its a faster car, or if they do it as a safety feature, but there it is.Finally got my new nine t on Saturday. LOVE it. It rides wonderfully. Am I really going as fast as the speedometer says? Doing 90 feels like doing 75 on my old r1200c. Does anyone know the likelihood that the speedo is off?
I'm loving mine so far too. Finally got my new nine t on Saturday. LOVE it. It rides wonderfully. Am I really going as fast as the speedometer says? Doing 90 feels like doing 75 on my old r1200c. Does anyone know the likelihood that the speedo is off?
Of cause they are optimistic. They have to be, to prevent the manufacturer to pay all the tickets of flashed drivers/riders... ooh officer I cannot understand why you say 58, my speedo said 50...The German TUV (equivalent of our DOT) requires speedos to be optimistic. GPS vs. speedos on my other beamies is something like 4 mph @ 65 mph..
@Hm91 This originally only affected early R nineT motorcycles (2014). This was fixed by a software update. What model/year of bike do you have?I just noticed this on mine too. It is reading way fast. Are there any calibrations that can be done to fix it?
Yes, there was a software update. There wasn't a recall or service bulletin. It was an automatic update if your bike was hooked into the system after the updates' release. Seems the affected bikes had speedos reading 10 -15% fast. This was discussed in several forum areas.
