Speedometer accuracy

Finally got my new nine t on Saturday. LOVE it. It rides wonderfully. Am I really going as fast as the speedometer says? Doing 90 feels like doing 75 on my old r1200c. Does anyone know the likelihood that the speedo is off?

Does any one care to admit to top speed? I can't believe mine , I laid on seat and turned it on. I believe i was moving around 140 M.P.H. and I did not notice Tachometer as I was kinda busy holding on. When I glanced at speed it was laying on 140

Hey Rocket, lots of posts about the intentional inaccuracy built into our Speedo’s. It’s a proportional error that’s gets worse the faster you go. The accuracy is pretty good under 50mph and supposed to be around 10% Exaggerated when wide open. I use a GPS speedo on my phone to compare and it aligns with what I said above. When my speedo says 135mph my GPS says 129mph. I’ve only touched 140 on the speedo once, down hill and with the wind at my back for maybe a full 60 seconds ...and that’s a long time at that speed even for me. My GPS said 132.8mph. I think Factory says 140 max but I think it’s wishful thinking. Maybe a totally dressed Cafe style with a faring, over inflated tires, with the wind at your back and down hill ...running racing fuel on a cool day may actually make 140 briefly ... I wouldn’t count on seeing 140 too often. However I’ve seen 125 (GPS) for 20 minutes continuous many times on some long straight super-highways in New Mexico. My machine ran smooth as silk, never complained once and for me the true test is when you slow down to an idle after a 20 minute run of 100+ ... she (Blitz) sat there and idled in her characteristic lope as sweet as she could be .. ready to do it again. I’ve ridden quicker bikes and machines that will go a lot faster ...but smooth dependable reluctant to stall, she’s the best. After reading about the history of the Mods & Rockers and the birth of “Cafe racing” in honor of those Trail Blazers, I pledged to Briefly peg 100 (one Ton) every single time I ride. That started in 2015 and I’ve kept my promise. I go out of my way to find a safe road, little traffic and good road conditions to peg 100 each time I ride. Doesn’t take much, maybe a mile or so .... The adrenaline is alway worth it, especially at 71 years of age. GoFast-HaveFun ... StayUpOn2 ...and fly like a “Rocket” .......Blitz
P.S. On our 9T’s The twisties and chicane‘s are wonderful no doubt ... but the long straights wide open in a tight tuck are what boil my blood. As near to flying as you’ll get ...close to the ground with no wings. Hell, my heart rate went up just talking about it .... Weathers perfect! I’m going for a ride ... CU later ! ✌😎🇨🇱🇺🇸🏁

I've done 140 as well... But they were Km/h and I'm still in the running-in phase. (Tomorrow I have the first 1000km (600 miles) service.
I've been wondering about my new bike's speedometer accuracy, too. My old bike's speedo was always about 10% optimistic, and I've been running around on the new bike assuming it's about the same. Will have to check it vs. a GPS at some point, but even if I'm overestimating the variance, I doubt I'm going to get a ticket for being a few mph over the limit. (25 over is a different story...)

As for top speed, I had my Pure up to (I think) 100 mph indicated on the freeway once last weekend. I don't have a screen fitted to the bike yet, and the wind felt like it was trying separate me from the machine. I figure 80-90 mph is as fast as I'll probably ever go on my R9T, and that's plenty. Straight-line speed is exhilarating for short bursts, but I worry too much about getting a ticket to do it very often.

This reminds me of one of the YouTube car channels I watch, where the hosts frequently mention "the daily triple." It's not daily for me, and I'm more apt to do this on a bike than my car, but it's been done on each. ;)

Hey guys I don't ride that way very often. My U.S. owners manual says bike does at least 125 m.p.h. so I wanted/had to know. I have been that speed or faster previously, my dear old dad used to tell me I was too stupid to be scared but I always liked adrenalin. Yes I agree with Blitz the twisties and switch backs are the best and I too always run through the gear box at least once each ride. as my flat track buddies say keep the shiny side up

Just got back an hour ago from a joy ride from Dallas to Paris Texas. Just over 200 miles Rick. Did the trip up this morning, visited for a few hours and back to Dallas this evening. The app “speed box“ logged the important bits ... GPS top speed shows, Also the Average speed as well as altitude. While GPS shows 130.4 the bike speedo read 139.6 ... That’s my margin of error, about 10mph Off or wrong at around 130 actual speed. Blitz is a beast and was begging for more. Trip back in the dark was much milder. All at around 90 .... usually my cruzing speed traffic permitting. Luck was my lady tonight ... not one traffic policeman seen during both trips, up and back...I know I’m a naughty boy and should obey the posted speeds (75mph) but I bought the machine (R9T); because I intend to misbehave,..... carefully you see, ...but just the same, Misbehave ! How could I own such a machine and NOT go-fast N’ have-fun ......
StayUpOn2 Mr.Rocket .....
.......Blitz

I can confirm Euro 5 (2021 Scrambler) has the exact speedo-GPS difference. The GPS installed is a Garmin Zumo XT.
When speedo says 90, GPS says 85.
When speedo says 140, GPS says 130.
Also, I don’t recommend going that fast on our bikes. Without fairing, you better hold on tight for your dear life. Maybe the fully-faired Racer model will be better?

No, it isn't.

Haha I have yet to ridden a Racer but I am speculating the aggressive “riding triangle” should allow the rider to get into full tuck. Is that still too much wind pushing back?
Maybe my ass is too fat, but I can't get in a full tuck like I see some of these guys do.
None the less, I'm very happy with anything under 100.
