great thread
wonderful news
thanks for posting this
i just called my dealer
no new news in the OFFICIAL BMW computer, however.... i wonder when THAT will occur?
status changes, etc
Yes, still waiting for the delivery date...
At this point there are no official status changes on any of the bikes to be built. BMW knows, of course, what date they will begin production of bikes for sale all over the world but no one is telling us.

I hope that when folks to get a status change indicating a production date they will post immediately on the forum
Does anybody have a guess at when we will be seeing the nineT at dealers? It seems like it is not going to make it to the US before Christmas. Maybe January or February.
every indication is that they will arrive at the end of February in Europe and the beginning of March in other places. it will be far easier to know that once a single bike as a production code that gives a date of production expected. we shall see.
seems more like PR than actual production ramping up. Sounds like pre production models, probably the ones were going to start seeing the magazines with.
PR has been stepped up quite a bit maybe too much LOL
can't believe there have been no new youtube videos at all. quite odd
i wonder if there will be some motojournalist introduction
i guess not

Thats what im also shocked about, this bike is supposed to be a big deal yet we still haven't seen anything special like that about it. weird

the 7-minute video that first enticed all of us was something wonderful
but... there seems to be no worldwide moto-journalist introduction planned at all

who knows why
The problem BMW might have is the in time delivery of quality aluminium tanks without defects.
I remember Voxan (French motorcycles) had that problem when they made the Black Magic cafe-racer ( Voxan Black Magic - Wikipédia )
I don't know who's providing that tank to BMW.

Test rides will come as soon as the first production bikes will reach the journalists

I've come across some production photos I thought you all might like to peruse. 14 assembly cycles, 21 employees responsible for construction.

@M&M this is all I was able to dig up about the NineTs tank:

The aluminum tank of the R nineT is proof that people at the BMW Berlin plant are well able to cope with challenges. The tank’s high-quality look is achieved by a black lacquer finish combined with hand-brushed, clear-coated aluminum surfaces. In order to ensure the required adhesion of the clear lacquer to the aluminum surface, specialists at the Berlin motorcycle plant developed a special transparent dispersion. This transparent film serves as a bonding coat between the aluminum surface and the clear lacquer – a technological innovation that makes the exciting design of the nineT possible.

The guy on the bike closest to the camera in the picture with 3 of them has to be around 6ft (183cm) or a bit taller, all looking good to me

And how do you estimate the size ?

Nothing scientific, just looks similar to me :p

I honestly do not believe this is a big deal to BMW. Having some experience in launching new products (IBM long time ago), product managers compete with other products for revenue, resource, manufacturing capacity, among other things. Typically, the 'sales forecast' by the product manager determines pricing, revenue stream, manufacturing resource . . . This product while important to the members of this forum I would be willing to guess is but a blip on BMW's product forecast(s). Consider the RT, the GS Adventure, and the GS comprising the lion's share of revenue. This product a high visibility product to we members, but more likely a showroom bauble to the dealerships. And, all will be easily sold. It will be interesting if this becomes a collectible or a flop (remember the HP2Sport?), and is just another testimoney that BMW 'could' build whatever they want, but does it generate significant revenue?

while i do agree with you to some point, john
i think that BMW may have UNDERestimated the appeal of this bike
they are sold out in germany, etc...
maybe they don't "need" a launch but the bike is going to be far more successful than they originally hoped, i believe

of course.... WE saw the "value" of this new steed almost immediately :)
