Hi. Does anyone have experience with a tank bag? Does a tank bag take off paint or mar the tank in any way? Thanks

I have had tank bags on my Ducati Diavel they are bulky and always leave marks no matter how careful you are!! I would recommend the rear bag ?

I have found that a layer of kitchen sandwich wrap works very well in keeping scratches off the bike when a tank bag is used.

for a more permanent solution, 3M makes a transparent adhesive film that works well and can be removed without pulling paint.

Yeah Bluebrick has it right. Vinyl films are good to protect the paint and for a purpose of a tankbag its perfect. Unfortunatly I find puting anything on the fairings will mar the paint even magnet types since they can still move around.
I don't think the magnets will work in the R9T tank, so the straps will definitely be etching their way into it at some point, right?
... so, maybe an existing professional/ or vinyl user (;)) could recap for the 'vinyl-film-novice' ...

- does the vinyl really protect against scratches from belt buckle, etc ?
- is it easy to diy?
- will it come off easy? and what after a few years?
- does it fade yellow? or opaque?
- could it be used on the timing belt cover at front, to protect against stone chips?
- is it worth the effort?
If it dosnt fit in your pockets you don't need to carry it :D so why bother with a tank bag  for everything else carry some cash ;):D:D

I think that as a day to day luggage item, the tank bag is not really necessary, but when We travel, (fairly often) the tank bag is essential. It really comes into it's own for housing: sunnies water bottle camera chamois maps spare visor (tinted or clear) etc. The bag on the rear is usually full with clothes and toiletries. However, for the Sunday scoot, no bags at all usually. Pockets are ample! With that said, I would expect that the nineT will be loaded up on a fairly regular basis. And isn't Mrs Chumba going to have a ball with all that torque in the twisties!!!!:D
... how long though is it gonna remain Mrs Chumba's plaything? that's what I'd like to know ... :p
Oh, I'm sure she'll share if I'm a good boy! But lt'll be Her Good Goer!:D

If the tank bang for the nineT is made like the one for the GS you won't have any trouble. There you have no belt, no buckle, no magnet, just a hook and a zip. And a well upholstered bottom side.
Good experience on many trips over the last three years without any scratch!
I still desire Mrs Chumba to be my personal riding instructor. I saw someone else talk about protecting that tank with protective film, very good idea imho if you are gonna strap a bag on it.
